Re: The Arcade Fire Appreciation Thread...

I actually don't hate the new album musically (minus a couple really really bad spots) but it sort of feels like they've just given up on lyrics. Like mentioned earlier, Peter Pan through Infinite Content are really really brutal.

I'm digging Put Your Money on Me and We Don't Deserve Love as a 1-2 punch at the end though.

Good interview with Win, talks about alot of the songs specifically on the album. Says Put Your Money on Me is one of the most proudest things he's ever done. Win's answer to the very last question is pretty neat. He even gets a little emotional. Worth your time to check out. https://youtu.be/0xOwifZ_BN4

Good show at the Garden last night. I can't believe they actually played Infinate Content (The fast version) and also Sarah Neufeld is a smokeshow.

I was blown away by the show last night. Had seats in 223 row 6, and my pregnant sister and bro in law had fooor seats. About five minutes before we went in, they wisely decided it would be better if they took the seats and we took the floors. Ended up about five rows back on the side where Win came into the crowd. The spinning center of the stage was actually disorienting for the first few songs, and I only had two beers pre-show.

Highlights for me were No Cars Go and the Sprawl II-Reflektor combo. I don't have a single complaint about that show though. Great crowd, great music.

Arcade Fire concerts always feel to me like an experience. Meaning they really engage with the audience. I was at the album release show in Brooklyn last month and MSG last night. Both times they literally entered the stage though the same location as the GA crowd. I saw them years ago at Barclays and they had this dual stage thing going on which was so cool, where Win and Regine would duet from different stages. I've seen Win take people's cell phones and then record from his POV too. Pretty awesome stuff.

Yeah, no doubt. Only other time I was able to see them was at Bonnaroo following the release of The Suburbs. They put on an amazing show there, but it didn't have the same intimate feel that last night did. "Experience" is definitely a good way to put it. It wasn't just a rock band plugging in and playing for a few hours. You could tell how much work went into pulling off that type of show. I really don't have a single bad thing to say about it, I only wish I could see them again on this tour.

I saw the show at Pine Knob (DTE) on Saturday. It was an absolutely phenomenal show but same issue in that the venue was half full. Why? Ticket prices too high? Holiday weekend? Very puzzling. They deserve better.

New song "Baby Mine" off the Dumbo soundtrack. Not all that bad. Better than 90% off of Everything Now.

sooo I'll be honest and say I sort of missed the boat on arcade fire's music (I had heard a few songs here and there and never much cared for the lead singer's voice), but that was a number of years ago. I decided to jump back in this week, and wow I can't believe what I've been missing. they have some seriously great tunes. I'm excited to really spend time with those first 3 records.

Some of the best rock music ever released. Period.

With that said, I've always preferred "Reflektor" over "The Suburbs"

I'm in my 40's, I've been going to concerts since I was about 15 (Purple Rain tour in StL was my first concert ever) so in my day i've been to somewhere around 65-75 concerts, point being I've been to a lot of concerts of all types of genres. Of those shows I've seen are 3 Arcade Fire shows and bar none they are easily the best live act I have ever seen. I've taken friends that weren't AF fans at all, or maybe knew one song and are completely converted. So if you get the chance to see them live, and even if you're kinda on the fence whether you are "all in" as a fan of their music, jump at the chance to see one of their shows and you will understand what it's all about. I don't absolutely love every single thing they put out, but they are an amazing live experience.

I was at the show at Bowery on Friday. Will is noticeably absent on Rebellion. Otherwise I couldn't tell the difference. (4th time seeing them live)
