As for continuity...there are times, even within The Original Series, where one episode might contradict something said in another episode. But, for the most part, they try their best to stick to canon. Thankfully, there are enough "canon nazis" in the writing rooms of these new shows, but they have taken a few liberties here and there.
One of the frustrating things about an 'expanded universe' with non canon material is when accepted parts of lore are obliterated -- such as the new star wars movies. Now, I don't expect a newcomer to know every little detail about the huge source of stories out there, but when it's accepted that Han and Leia have twins and another son (just as ONE example) and a new film comes along and erases the entire EU, I kind of feel robbed as a fan.

I just started watching the original series this past weekend and I'm liking it so far. The only Star Trek I've seen was the 2009 movie and I liked it a lot, but never set time to start watching the shows or the sequels to that movie. I'm hoping to finish the original series in time to watch the first motion picture 40th anniversary screening next month!

If you've never seen The Motion Picture, the big screen is the way to go!

Yeah, it's a new series coming in January. It should be pretty good, better than TNG hopefully. It certainly can't be worse than Star Trek: Discovery.

I've yet to watch the last two movies and Discovery.

This Picard show looks like it might be good.

Speaking of Patrick Stewart, I wish we'd gotten another season of Blunt Talk. Loved that one.

Yeah, Discovery and the last 2 movies were not so good. I'd say skip 'em and just go straight to Picard. This week's episode starts off with a bang!

I watched the first episode of Picard and I enjoyed it, but I haven't made time to check out the rest. Might have to with one free month of access. Thanks, Madnana!

Noah Hawley, who is best known for TV's Fargo and Legion, will direct the next Trek film for the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Another new Star Trek series just premiered. An animated comedy from Mike McMahan, called Star Trek: Lower Decks. You can watch the first 2 episodes now on CBS All Access, or binge the entire season of Picard! Try 1 month FREE with code "PLAY" by 8/16/20.

Or, you can watch the first episode without signing up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HzRGqvRK8U
