If I could go back to the 80's... I'd buy a ton of Zappers gum by leaf. They were big, there were like 4 in a pack (Red, Orange, Purple, Green) and had a similar coating to that of Nerds jellybeans. They also had sour crystals, not powder, inside. They were like the original sour gum. They've been discontinued.
They came in a yellow wrapper that said "Zappers" in a lightning style font.

hmm I have a permanent retainer behind my lower teeth too and its never bothered me once while chewing gum, odd, and im not picky when it comes to gum, i just hate gum where the flavor goes away after 10 seconds
