Lying in the Hands of God >>>> American Baby, YMDT, Corn Bread

LITHOG could have been on any of the Big 4. It's that good. These other three songs, for example,....not so much.

Just one guy's opinion, tho. The rest of the list looked pretty good I guess, but these three songs stick out like sore thumbs. LITHOG could take on all three at once, and still beat the crap out of all of them, without even putting up much of a fight.

American Baby is a good song (we have had this discussion before ). YMDT is an awesome live song with Tim and Jeff. I could hear it at every show.

lol. it's really not. I'll admit that YMDT is ok, from time to time. And I like some versions of Corn Bread. But AB sucks.

Just because Lying In The Hands Of God "could have been from any of the Big 4" doesn't mean it's suddenly better than another song.

Replace American Baby, You Might Die Trying, and Corn Bread with any of the dozen "hardcore favorites" I didn't include, such as Two Step, Seek Up, and Ants Marching. That still wouldn't put Lying In The Hands Of God in a top 50. And I like Lying In The Hands Of God, A LOT (favorite from Big Whiskey as well).

Not necesarilly, no, but it does mean that it's really, really, really......really good.

It's my fav song on Big Whiskey, too. I haven't ever attempted to make a Top 50 list (Top 10 is hard enough) but it would definitely be in there, somewhere. If you knew what I feel, then you couldn't be so sure.

You would rather hear these songs than LITHOG? I'm not even gonna comment on Shotgun because I did earlier but the rest of this list....

It has nothing to do with Big 3. Believe it or not there's actually a few tunes on those albums that I don't like. So really my point before has to do with the fact that those songs just don't stack up to LITHOG in any single way. I'm not sure how you could argue that really.

Because it's an opinion and people are allowed to like or dislike anything they desire.

Because music isn't a math problem, my friend. It's entirely subjective (for the most part).

For me, LITHOG doesn't "stack up" to about 75% of DMB's catalog. It's, ya know, an opinion.

I'm not sure if I like both of those more than Lying In The Hands Of God or not, but the point of my list was to show there's a good, definite 50 I like A LOT more. I was wrong in my previous post saying LITHOG wasn't in my top 70, but it is guaranteed not in my top 50.

There's a ton of "hardcore favorites" not on the list that would bump LITHOG down more for most people, like Two Step, Seek Up, Ants Marching, The Song That Jane Likes, the two you mentioned, etc.

Shotgun is so over rated on this board, that it's not even funny. The answer is no for me.

If your point was to prove about 3/4 of 86 people voting on an AM.org poll like Lying In The Hands Of God more than Corn Bread, you're right. Otherwise, no.

Well look at it this way man, if you really like Cornbread more than LITHOG, that's honestly cool. The reason I was pushing that point was only because I feel like a good amount of people here aren't giving some BW songs the credit they deserve, with this example being LITHOG. It just fascinates me as to why certain people feel that way. While this has nothing to do with you, the most interesting thing I noticed on these sites (Ants, WDS, TDC, etc.) was that a lot of the same people who had negative connotations about the album before it came out basically stuck with them, and many of their opinions never changed. I don't know if it's just that they're stubborn or what. I mean right now there are a ton of polar opinions on BW, which is extremely bizarre for any of their albums so far. BTCS sorta had that, but but 1999 everyone knew it was legit.

I knew BTCS was legit in 1998. It used to wake me up every morning in my cd player, too. For years.
