Re: Best Books You've Recently Read

I haven't had much time to read it, and I know EW panned it, but I am enjoying the Arnold Schwarzeneggar autobiography. He's had quite the life.

Right now, I am reading Detroit: An American Autopsy by Charlie LeDuff. It's half-memoir, half journalistic reportage on how Detroit became the mess that it is today. Only about a third of the way through, but I would highly recommend it based on what I've read so far, especially if you're a fan of The Wire. LeDuff really excels at painting a vivid picture of the setting and gets deep into many of the same issues that The Wire covered regarding Baltimore.

Cannot wait to read this. It's next for me after I finish Methland. LeDuff's book and Binelli's (Detroit City is the Place to Be) are going back to back.

I finished the third book Ive read by Gillian Flynn last night....Sharp Objects.

I rate them in the following order, best first: Gone Girl, Sharp Objects, Dark Places

Before that I read Harlan Cobens "Six Years". Really good book....bunch of good twists.

Im starting up Defending Jacob by William Landay

Right on. I tend to download a lot of Kindle books too, especially when they are free or 99 cents!

I thought the beginning was a little slow but in the end I really enjoyed it. I just got the 2nd book this weekend and will start it today.

What Is the What by Dave Eggers.

Pretty solid book, opened my eyes to the Lost Boys of Sudan... It's a novel but based off the stories/accounts of a Sundanese guy, Valentino.

Sandlot Seasons by Rob Ruck. Great if you are baseball fan, from Pittsburg, or in to social

Finished this last week. Absolutely fantastic book. Reminds be a lot of the Forever War, both in terms of content and style.

I'd flip the last two. Couldn't really get into Sharp Objects.

Defending Jacob was really disappointing, IMO. Terrible dialogue, obvious plot points, weak ending.

I HATED The Dinner, but I'm probably in the minority on that.

Currently reading Shantaram, and it is fantastic. Don't let the length scare you off. This is the best thing I have read in a long time and I would highly recommend it.

In the process of reading Inferno by Dan Brown.

I'm only about 100 pages in, but so far it's awesome.

Yea, I started that recently. I'm about a third of the way through. It's pretty good so far. I remember being way more invested into The Lost Symbol, but maybe things will change.

It just seems to be missing something.

I would have to say this is the best book I have ever read. The length was entirely worth it and I have been waiting for The Mountain Shadow ever since I finished. I recommend it to everyone.
