Yea I think fedra is going to be an afterthought. And tbh in the game they’re are more of a looming background presence than a direct threat. Large chunks of the game you completely forget they exist.

Not quite to the same extent, but you could kind of say the same about the infected.

I mean there are infected in nearly every location/mission in the games compared to like a handful of missions where Fedra is involved. Not remotely the same.

I didn’t say it was the same. My point was that you weren’t running around slaying hordes of infected throughout the games either.

Ignoring FEDRA is kind of a miss, IMO.

Not to spoil anything about later in the game/show but at least in the beginning of the game, their presence and subsequent oppression on the people living in the QZ are pretty important to the existence of the Fireflies.

Agreed….

And I think that’s important to understanding why the Fireflies are trying to smuggle Ellie out west. It paints the picture that FEDRA isn’t really interested in finding a cure because, if they were, why wouldn’t they let them know they have a girl who has been bitten but not infected.

For sure, and I think it will be touched on more. But the idea of a rebellion against a makeshift government isnt really sometihng they have to do a whole lot of selling on for the plot to work or people to understand.

None, if I recall, but I think you can then connect the dots as to why the Fireflies are having to get her to their doctors. There is a clear line of distrust in FEDRA’s motives. Otherwise why wouldn’t the Fireflies take the easier route of saying, “we found this girl. She’s immune. We can end all this.”

The scene with the kid who is bitten in EP 1 kind of backs this. He is euthanized immediately after testing positive. How many other Ellie’s may there have been that fell through the gap because of FEDRA’s protocols?

I always talk about Dexter when I see things like this... what's the over/under that they'll forsake the source material for S2? They're not beholden to the second game now that they have the rights. Unless I'm wrong about that?

My response is kinda moot considering the next quote, but I've seen shows that stray from the source material starting in S2, so I tend to be wary.

My worry is not that they'll stray off the source material too much, it's that they'll get greedy and push beyond the source material. Then we have ourselves a GoT situation.

I write to endings. Endings are everything to me. I don’t know how to write, if I don’t know how it ends. And also, if the show doesn’t have an ending, it means nothing ultimately is truly purposeful. All the stakes become empty because, if the network renews you, everything’s fine, and I don’t know how to do that. I don’t mind watching those shows. I like watching those shows. I just can’t write them. So, I have the benefit of the first game, which we have encompassed with this season, which has a real beginning and middle and end.

GoT problem wasnt really about leaving source material nearly as much as it was about rushing the show to a conclusion when what made it what it was, was rich and expanded storytelling.

That's all fine and dandy, and I'd love to take them at their word, but we already know that Druckmann is finished with a script outline for the third game. I'd imagine there will be pressures to keep it going if it continues to be this successful.

Kind of agree, but I think it was both. They were working off bits and pieces of what GRRM told them. They never had access to fully fleshed out material, which I think proved to be a bit of a problem and led to rushing things.

Shows with previously established source material that suffer are shows that forsake said source material, regardless of reason. If TLoU sticks to the source material, they'll be good.

Also I thought the only thing confirmed right now is a multiplayer experience after the LOU2.

I never really understood the pushback on TLOU2 tbh. Thought the game was incredible and the depth of storytelling for a video game was crazy. It was definitely bleak and ruthless but like so was the first game in many ways. It's not like that one ended on a particularly bright note. And they confronted the actions of the protagonist in the first game in a unique way with the perspective switch. I loved it.

I am never going to knock someone else's opinion of the game. I am just sharing mine. I could not stand the last 55% of the game (of the story/gameplay was still great) for reasons I won't put in here for spoiling.

I think there are legit criticisms for the second game's story.

That said, there's lots of bullshit too. I just hope S2 isn't influenced by the bullshit.

yeah but to your original post I don't think they got greedy and strayed beyond the source material. The source material simply ran out and it doesn't sound like GRRM gave them much more than there everyone ends up on the chess board. If the books were done I have faith that they would have stuck to an adapted version of the material as they had done in the early seasons
