Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

After searching google and the search function on here not working for me, I'm curious as to what song is Dave's favorite or means the most to him? I know every artist likes pretty much every song they write and put out to the public, but what song(s) does Dave hold above the rest.

Some of my choices would be Shotgun, Bartender, and The Stone.

I've read and seen some interviews where he says that the lyrics in his songs are supposed to be open to interpretation.

Looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts on this topic...

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Are those choices your favorites or what you believe Dave's would be?

They're songs that I think mean the most to Dave personally. I think those songs bring up strong emotions in Dave, which is why I think they are not played a lot. It seems as if Dave just mostly plays the "feel good" songs these days.

[edit] and yeah, those songs are all in my top 10-15. haha

Of course this is entirely speculative. I think though we often read too much into him.

They are not played too often because he says (in an interview on YouTube) that he doesn't feel like playing them, and he wants to play them with all his heart so will only when he feels like it. Which doesn't tell us if he loves them loads or hates them loads.

I think you could easily be right... but you could easily be wrong.

I think we have no idea.

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Dave said in a recent interview that Jimi Thing is his favorite to play.

He also regularly tells the crowd how much he likes Seven before they play it.

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Dave used to "loooooove" The Idea of You, but he apparently fell out of love with it.

Judging by setlists alone, I don't think the 3 songs you listed would make Dave's Top 10.

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Of the new songs, I can see Belly Belly Nice, Mercy, and Drunken Soldier falling under the Dave favorite category.

I don't doubt it (not contradicting you)....Dave said in one of the Rodrigo interviews that Rooftop was his favorite on the new album.

This was the Rooftop comment. Mercy was first the first that came to mind and then came the Rooftop which I agree if I had to put Rooftop in the mix.

However, I forgot about this:

It's my favorite song on the album and is definitely a deep and throught-provoking song about his wife. Definitely a classic and I'm very surprised a few people still haven't gotten into it.
#41 Definitely has to be up there as well.

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Someone already touched on it, but it appears Jimi and Seven are up there for sure. Don't drink the water has never taken a rest, so that has to be in there as well. As far as new songs, you can just tell he enjoys Drunken soldier...and that's not a bad thing.

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Seems like Eh Hee, Cornbread, Out of my hands, Shake Me, and Seven are his favorites. He has really bad taste in DMB music, IMO.

I guess what I'm asking is - "What song(s) have the most personal meaning to Dave?"

He said in a recent interview The Riff had a very personal meaning to him. Of the older tunes, yes.....The Stone, Halloween, I'll Back You Up and #41 are extremely personal.

Little FYI not many know, #41 is about his first manager and not, in fact, a love song.

Re: Dave's Favorite Song(s)?

Dave said in Brooklyn that Jimi makes him feel like he is at home. As others have pointed out, he has called it his favorite song before.

I'm prettttty sure that's common knowledge that it's about Ross Hoffman.... at least around here but I thought generally.

Don't assume in this place. Also pointed it out bc I saw op had a join date of 2010 so might be new to the band and such.

Roger that! Wasn't being a dick. Just had only heard it interpreted as what it is. Hadn't heard the "lovesong" interpretations.

But hey, if you randomly say a DMB song is about love, sex or oral sex, you'd be right at least 80% of the time!!!! hahaha

Not a DMB song, but Dave says on the Piedmont release that "Melissa" by The Allman Brothers is one of his favorite songs ever written.

If Dave posted on these boards he would be ripped apart for his taste in DMB music.
