Yes it is. And yeah, I couldn't stand it at first but it's gotten WORLDS better. Feels like the guy figured his shit out like 3-4 episodes in. I definitely recommend trying it again if you can.

You can just listen to the episodes, at least that's what I've been doing. I've been skipping all the case evidence and Q&A sessions with listeners. They basically just summarize/re-hash things that have already been talked about.

I finished S-Town yesterday and have to admit I was underwhelmed by the ending. If it was a movie, I would have loved the first two acts and then left unsatisfied with the third act. Anyone else feel the same way? I know life doesn't always end with nicely tied bows and perfect answers, but I wanted more answers to questions that were brought up.

The story itself is intriguing. Watching this man for decades be one type of person, and then just disappear like that. I think it all culminated in what his lawyer (?) (or maybe it was his publicist) said in the last episode about who Gene really is. (possibly)

Richard Simmons is missing.

I think people have been spoiled after listening to Serial and their expectations on outcomes of "cases" is too high. (and now Up and Vanished).

Regardless of the outcome, I still found it a fascinating look into Simmon's life, and his impact on those around him.

The last episode was just "Welp, I guess we'll never know and I'm not even sure what I believe."



But Serial at least had a mystery. This Richard Simmons one felt like a manufactured mystery.

yeah i was not a fan of S-Town. I'm 3 into Up and Vanished though and digging it so far.

Because Serial made the case known to the public and there was movement on the case after the podcast.

With the Simmons podcast there was a genuine concern from everyone that knew him.

I really liked S-Town. Again, were people expecting to hear that a treasure trove of gold was found under the maze and Tyler is a rich man?
Last few episodes werent as edge of your seat as the first few episodes, but it still kept me wondering- we got to see more details of John B's life, the two sides to every story, etc etc.

And no, I'm not expecting them to find the gold necessarily, but I'd like to learn how the legal stuff between Rita and Tyler plays out and where the old woman ends up. Maybe we'll get that in an update or something later on.

I'm well into Up and Vanished and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The case evidence episodes are interesting to break up the mystery and recap the actual facts. Pretty excited to get current and see where things go.

Recently finished S-Town and was underwhelmed after a promising start like many of you.

ALSO, I was almost unable to finish the last couple because of Brian Reed's infuriating vocal ticks. It became almost too much to bear. Every sentence ends with a whimper--as though he's either asking a question, on the verge of tears, or both. It's a shame because I like the person Reed seems to be, his writing/story-telling and his interview style with John and the others. But the vocal delivery became like nails on a chalkboard after noticing it.

here's my problem with S-Town:

the best part of S-Town is the voice of John B. Once they announce his death at the end of episode 2, it just completely loses its luster and appeal without him. I'm almost done with episode 5 and I find myself bored to tears with it and struggling to finish. I legitimately would have rather heard more of John B just telling more of his crazy stories/thoughts and ideas. It's his voice that made it so interesting in the first place. Without it, it's just very uninteresting.
