In my top 5 so far. Absolutely love this album and thought it was their best album to date. I love varying opinions in this thread.

It is just outside of my bottom five. That new Muse album pushed it up a touch. 2nd Law is a complete shitfest.

Haven't listened to a ton of GB before but this opening track definitely grabs my attention.

Marty, we are are on a more-than-congenial level, and I know you're a solid Hold Steady fan. Your disagreements are of course completely fine

None of those 5 hit me at all. Pretty much nothing. To each their own.

And as far as Craig's solo record, I've talked a lot about it in here, but I finally realized that (as simple as it sounds) it is not a Hold Steady album. That took a lot to get over. I agree, the lyrics are not on par with their catalog, and the music - while I feel it is damn good for being a completely different genre - does not complement his delivery as well.

That said, It has grown on me a lot and I love it

Since everyone else is commenting on it so far, my rankings of these albums...we actually more or less agree, with the exception of Mumford, which I like way more than their first.

    44) Mumford & Sons - Babel
    112) Dr. Dog - Be The Void
    135) Craig Finn - Clear Heart, Full Eyes
    170) M. Ward - A Wasteland Companion
    171) fun. - Some Nights (dead last place)

still really love Craig's album. if it were a THS album it would be dead last don't get me wrong, but it's not so it wins.

^also fairly disliked the new M. Ward. very boring compared to his previous releases.

new Dr. Dog is catchy as fuck, never got the hate for it.

    11) Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...
    34) Mount Eerie - Clear Moon
    63) Craft Spells - Gallery
    65) Of Montreal - Paralytic Stalks

I probably need to relisten to Dr. Dog. It was one of the early spins this year, so I haven't given it much recent play and things just kept falling in front of it.

From here on out, with 3 months left in the year, I'll be putting the ranking of whatever album I'm listening to (if from 2012) at the end of the post.

    Just Finished:
The Mountain Goats - Transcendental Youth (#10)

    First Listen:

That's actually a pretty cool idea. You should also note if it changes after your listen.

I will try...but I don't know if I can keep up with that enough. "Now where did I have this ranked last Wednesday at 11:34 AM......?"

This year is my first with a tumblr account, where I have posted my top albums and tracks at the end of every moth this year, so I can actually see the evolution of my list for once, which is pretty cool

Kind of liking the new Raveonettes. If anything it reminds me of Yuck last year (not as well written IMO, but I could see it potentially being just as addictive)

    DJ Krush - Meiso(1995)*

Atmospheric and occasionally rap-influenced Japanese instrumental hip-hop. The album starts off very strong but loses focus somewhere during track 7 and the rest becomes awash.

    Kenmochi Hidefumi - Shakespear(2010)*

This was in my library labeled J-Pop Definitely not J-pop. Another Japanese instrumental hip hop album, this time more jazz inspired with heavy acoustic backing. The coverart looks suspiciously like Nujabes posthumous album and I'm almost certain Hidefumi is a knock-off Nujabes artist.
