If they wanted to reach a younger audience, and potentially grow the fan base, Lindsey Stirling would be a great pick.

I feel like she would drive Dave up a wall. Carter would probably get a kick out of her though.

Can anyone in The Piano Guys play violin? I know they play the cello, and have covered Ants Marching before.

It’s just the same situation as what happened when the Kronos quartet came in for the btcs sessions. They play music that’s on a sheet. Same with this guy. That’s not what dmb is looking for.

Not knocking the guy, just isn’t a fit.

I think with the way things are trending and Carter being the eldest, we need some type of Rooney rule for the replacement. They did replace LeRoi with two white guys.

I saw ZBB cover Ants when they played in Nashville, and Jimmy gets the job done. ZBB is touring this summer, so it couldn't be a whole summer replacement, but he is free when DMB plays at Deer Creek

They should replace Boyd with Yoyo Ma on the cello. Could you imagine a cello solo during LIOG?

I don’t think they could pull off Lindsey Sterling, but my daughter would empty her savings account for tickets to every show if they did.

He would be a HUGE upgrade and would sound amazing with DMB. I know Boyd is Boyd and is un-replaceable and all, but Jimmy would fit in amazingly.

    Re: Prospective Boyd Replacement Discussion

Although not in favor of a “quick replacement”, I can see how the sound of the band could be affected by the lack of violin. Then again, the lack of violin could open their minds for new ideas as far as the arrangements go.
Not replacing Boyd at all would show respect for him and maybe that void would show the audience how relevant he is to their sound. And I would even dare to say, it would show them (the band, or most importantly Dave) how important Boyd is to their sound.
Bringing Butch Taylor in could be an interesting twist.
If another violin were the way to go my vote would be for John McCusker, who I’ve seen live and who brings a great energy to the stage along with a lot of soul and feeling to every note he plays.

This is random but around 2007, I was talking to Miri Ben-Ari (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miri_Ben-Ari) and her manager back when she was the lead violinist for Kanye and her manager told me he had been trying to get her to be a guest with DMB.

I would fully support having her tour with the band this year.
