I am very ashamed to admit that today I actually realized what is being said after studio Rapunzel. God damn, how did I go this long without realizing that?

huh, i never knew that. never really paid much attention to it. i just chalked it up to dave's nonsensical mumbling.

i believe thats actually roi saying that. and dave is the really low voice mumbling right before that. he starts talking as roi's very last note fades out. get a good pair of earbuds, go somewhere quite, and turn the volume up. its hard to hear what he's actually saying even when listening for it, but its there. i always thought the last thing he says before roi answers the phone is "open up a drawer"

I was listening to 6/21/08 yesterday and I just want to say what a heck of a start to a show. The beginnings of dmb 3.0 were great. I know this is a Roy show but I would still consider this a dmb 3.0 show. Back then DDTW and grey street were slowed down compared to how fast they are now. All of 2008 sounded a lot better than current dmb 3.0 IMO. What happened?

re-learned PFWYG last night while I was high.
I just kept looping the chords for a good hour and a half.
you can really get lost in that song.

I'm not really sure what exactly happened? IMO, it's the fact that Roi got injured/ died. I think Roi had a much bigger role in the sound of the band then we know. Listening to LT 13 & 14 compared to the Mile High show is like night and day, IMO. The LT shows and Mile High are only like a month apart and sound completely different. The only difference is, no Roi.

    excellent, excellent, excellent performance.

this past year's Gorge performance in the encore is my personal #1, but it's mostly because it was my and my wife's first, and our wedding song was Can't Help Falling In Love (wedding was only 4 months beforehand)

so with the crowd really getting into the outro, and Carter getting so into his little moment of conducting us it was just perfect

That is awesome. I saw a video of it on YouTube, and yeah it looked like Carter was really into the outro. If only that was the last song of the night haha

I'm still waiting for my first Stone. Maybe this year...

Great version, for sure, great LT in general. The Stone on Listener Supported will always be my #1 Stone. But, I mean, can there really be a bad Stone??? I personally, think not.

    random thought on SU:

    American Baby
    American Baby Intro

    Dreamgirl
Everybody Wake Up (Our Finest Hour Arrives)
    Hello Again
    Hunger for the Great Light

    Louisiana Bayou
Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back)
    Out of My Hands
    Smooth Rider
    Stand Up (For It)
    Steady As We Go
    Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd
    You Might Die Trying

just from observations, the bolded are generally regarded as pretty good songs. that's 8 out of 14 tracks. call it 7 out of 13 if you want to say AB/ABI is one song (I wouldn't).

seems like SU is well liked enough that it shouldn't get the hate it does.

I'll let you say ODH shouldn't be on there, and that's why I italicized it, but honestly I see more praise for that song around here than I do hate.

on the other hand, if we're judging it on studio quality, I'll let you take SAWG, Hello Again, and AB (not the intro) out too. in that case, then I'd get it.

but from the perspective of songs that came out of those sessions that we enjoy from the band live, seems solid.

personally I like bayou much more than hunger, but I was going by what I've gleaned from people on the boards in general.

I feel like it's more widely felt that hunger > bayou.

Oh man, I can't get in line with that. Bayou has an awesome jam at the end, and the lyrics aren't bad. Hunger... has no redeeming qualities whatsoever

The light show during Hunger in '05 was pretty cool.

not quite sure where you're seeing people say these things. from what i've seen over the years,

American Baby is decent and accepted on the occasional play basis. ABI is rarely something to write home about.
    Dreamgirl has always been meh.
EWU has been more accepted now that its been reworked a little bit and has that cool outro.
Hello Again is rarely considered a SU song.
Hunger is generally considered garbage (although i enjoy it).
Bayou is accepted in limited quantities, moreso when there is a guest like robert randolph.
ODH is only worthwhile as D+T.
OOMY, SR, and SU are generally considered crap.
SAWG is a such a cheesefest it should go retire to green bay.
Stolen Away has been more accepted now with the acoustic performances. still a bore full band electric.
YMDT is actually a great jam and the best song from the album (sans HA).

so i see 2 good songs, and about 5 more that are wanted under specific conditions. the rest are all pretty much forgettable.

The Riff is musically as good as nearly anything on the Big 3. It's close to Big 3 quality lyrically - with a few more revisions and complete omission of the word "baby" it would be the best DMB song since YNK and the summer 00 songs.

Also, I think it should be called "The Rift" not "The Riff" as it's about being torn and divided - from youth, from a lover, from the world, etc.

Great song, best on AFTW - just ever so close form being a modern classic. Too bad Dave can't sing it live though

the title is along the lines of #41 where its more of a working title that was kept. it would be better as rift, but the song is good either way. my favorite from AFTW.

The studio version of Crash into Me is really great.

I listened to Big Whiskey today and I have a new appreciation for it. It's a great studio album. But keep it in the studio, not on stage.
