If we’re suddenly getting 6-7 minute Two Steps, I think it’s about time our pal Jimi gets the same makeover.

Not counting the Time Bomb intro, the Hartford Two Step clocks in at 4:52 seconds! This is insane, Seven was played longer than Two Stop that night.

    6/14 Camden 7:25 seconds

Carter takes a beating on those long Two Steps, not sure if we will see many more of those anymore.

Unpopular opinion, I'm find with DMB keeping things beneath the 10 min mark. Two Step/Jimi Thing/LITOG/Bartender/Seek Up are too long these days. The jamming is often uninspired.

I was thinking about this too and I agree

Even seek up. The intro is a mess with the horns. Shorten all the long songs so there’s more songs overall in the set.

If you look at recent setlists, most shows have only 1 or 2 songs that ever break the 10 minute mark

If we’re gonna shorten two step I’d love to see them start dropping it early/mid set again. I’ll take the segue into Halloween every damn time tho

    I love this little improv/jam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc8weRfT16I

I’ve posed a variation on this sentiment several times already...but it’s not about how inspired the jams may or may not be. I want to hear more songs. Knock Seek Up and JT to less than 10 mins each and there’s at least one more song they could play. There’d still be space/time to jam, but not everyone needs a solo...maybe feature one or two per song when doing a jam and try to keep them concise...

Man it always blows me away when people bitch about the Seek Up opening, that's easily the jazziest the band gets these days and it always slays. If the trumpet isn't your thing I guess I understand, but outside of that it baffles me that people don't enjoy Seek Up intro.

I'm definitely on board with tightening up songs, #41 at Hartford was under 10 minutes and was perfect.

The problem is that the same people who want them to shorten songs to add more songs to the set will be the ones complaining when they get a 7 minute Seek Up along with I Did It, Blackjack, Plastic Girl, and SMLAM.

I miss the fiddle/violin. Badly. Why not bring in a Boyd replacement?

More songs would also not be good for Dave’s voice.

How long do you think he sings for during a full band show? Legitimately asking, I was trying to think of it at the show last Friday

I think he sings quite a lot, not sure exactly how long, but those longer songs with jam sections definitely give his voice some needed rest. I think the only way they could add more songs without Dave’s voice wearing out really quickly would be to open with a handful of Dave and Tim song where he can sing in a more relaxed way. In theory, he should be able to sing in a relaxed way with the band, but most of the time he does not.

He pushes way too hard to often, my vocal teacher had a funny reaction to TGIY, but yeah it does seem like the jams and everything give him a lot of rest too

I am so over hearing anything over 15 minutes at a DMB show nowadays. They're just not that type of band anymore IMO. The majority of the people at most shows don't want to hear it either.

I don't really like any modern day DMB versions of anything when comparing to old, but this is an exception. Rashawn using the mute is just perfect, TR with the 'light' touches on the guitar, Dave's voice/attitude during it and interaction with the rail, and the speed is just perfect. Something about it, just an awesome version.

Edit: In a weird way, this version I've been listening to over and over for the past year sounds better than the DMB channel one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-HrST5xEyo I think it's the Sirius recording.

I guess I'm posting in the wrong thread about this. Either way, it's awesome when you love a version of something, listen to it all the time, and then it gets uploaded in what usually is a better audio version on the official dmb channel.

You know, I just realized after listening to both of your videos that they dubbed or pitch-altered Rashawn's horn part at the start....

Listen to 0:14 on the official DMB YT version, and listen to 0:09 on the Copperpot5 version.

    Rashawn plays B B B B A G# F# on the official version, but he plays A B B B A G# F# on the unofficial version.

Weird that they'd do that... It's literally a one note mistake.

Good ear. I hear it too now that you mentioned it. They did a ton of this crap on the Gorge ‘02 version as well. Pretty lame honestly

Notice crazy tattoo chick is railed at this show as well. I saw her railed at Chicago several days before this, and then railed at Gorge later in the summer. It’s gotta be really freaky to be Dave and see her right in front of you every show all summer.
