I’m not sure if it’s my internet or running the show through my receiver but my audio/video hasn’t been perfect either.

That's a good take, certainly see what you mean. "Relatively" new fan too, '08 was my first show

Started going to shows in 2009 (first show was actually 11 years ago today)

How did the fanbase feel about Dave and Friends at the time? I could see it being polarizing.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Dave writes a killer solo album, tours in support of it with an unbelievable band then has one of the all time best tours with DMB (hasn’t been a better tour since 04) Solo bands can really push artists.

Not sure about the fan base but Stefan definitely thought it was polarizing, I remember in an interview with Cali he came off seeming pretty upset about it or at least not supportive

Incredible album and some how an even better tour with D&F some of those shows stack close to Dmbs best

All the people in my circle went nuts for it! I had a crew of a half dozen in the central PA / Maryland area, did a bunch of shows that summer and when the D&F tour was announced we went all in. Packed houses, crowds were super into the shows, and everything I remember pre/post shows was very positive.

I started much later with shows but have been a fan forever (I’m from Virginia and was in college around time DMB was making it big). Got married in college and didn’t have the $ or time to do concerts like I would have wanted to otherwise. Throw some kids in the mix and it took me WAY too long to get into the shows. But no turning back now!

I remember an Ants poll in the sidebar asking about tours we wanted to see around that time, and I always enthusiastically selected Dave and Friends. I still feel that way.

I fell in love with DMB in 2003, Phish in 2005, or so. This band just feels like home.

I remember thinking it was fun as hell at the one show I caught (Vegoose '05)

I don't remember too push back at the time, aside from Fonz not liking it as TS#s mentioned. I think people just generally rolled with it, like, oh, cool, we get another group in addition to DMB and D&T

Unfortunately no shows were even remotely close to me but I also heard the same thing ab the shows themselves. Sold out tour.

Any of you lucky enough to hear Baby?

There were also a decent amount of Phish fans at shows, certainly not a large percentage but I definitely ran into people that were not all that familiar with Dave's work and bought a ticket just to see Trey. They weren't easy tickets if I remember correctly, also back when the WH didn't suck!

We loved it straight away, weren't concerned w/ it vs. DMB from an enjoyment perspective. We were a little concerned about what it meant for the future of DMB, as in whether or not there would be a future.

At the time, despite BS having come out, I was still quite put off by ED and SD really grabbed my ear on the first listen. It still amazes me to think that ED exists when tLWS/BS tracks and SD were written before, during, & after. ED is such trash by comparison.

The setup for the 03/04 winter tour was similar to #TwoSets — D&T to start the night, a gear change and then a full DMF show
