    Pretty strong case right there!

What’s the last line, I’m not terribly up on all my advanced stats.

hard to argue against just those stats, but i imagine voters will probably use the "he slumped for a long time" narrative as reason to give Altuve more votes. either of them are deserving of the award

    Re: New York Yankees

and the voters may also give Judge a black mark for all the K's, which really shouldn't be that big a deal because even a .300 hitter is making 350-400 outs a season anyways. so how many of those 350-400 are rally killers, are double plays, etc?

    did some quick stat crunching...

Altuve had 590 AB's with 84 K's. In 118 double play opportunities, he hit into a DP 19 times, or 16%. This leaves 283 flyballs and groundouts, for a total of 367 AB's that ended in only 1 out being made.

Judge had 542 AB's with 208 K's. In 84 DP opportunities, he hit into 15 DP's, or 18%. This leaves 165 flyballs and groundouts, for a total of 373 AB's that ended in only 1 out being made.

is a flyball or groundout more productive than a strikeout? if it moves a runner over, sure, but if that runner doesn't end up scoring it means squat. (I assume it's not considered a sacrifice out if it doesn't involve scoring a run, right?)

Neither Cone nor Flaherty have interviewed - they're names are just being thrown around because both have been quoted as saying that they'd be interested in talking to Cashman if the Yankees approached them.

Cone would be a good players guy but obviously lacks the experience. He was far and away the clubhouse leader during those 90s teams.

I am sad to say I think I am getting a tad old. We are coming up on the 20th anniversary of the 1998 Yankees and I think there are plenty of fans who's only memory of guys like Paullie, Tino, Bernie, Brosius, Knoblauch, Lloyd, Stanton, Nelson, Mendoza, etc, etc are probably just highlight video's because a lot of them were probably in diapers during the 1998 season hence they have absolutely no idea just how big a role these guys played in that season!

Oh yeah, agreed - also should have noted Wells (whom we did not know what we were getting), Irabu who had a damn solid first half of the season, El Duque who pickd up when Irabu hit the skids, role players like Girardi, Ledee, Sojo, Chili Davis and Homer Bush - not to mention Mo since we did not know how he would rebound after giving up that infamous dinger he gave up to Sandy Alomar - we all know some guys who essentially lose a playoff series with a single pitch are never the same!

Also, belated congrats to Judge on being one of the very few unanimous ROY winners!

They can hire a strong bench coach to assist him. He’d be a good fit though. He’s a great leader in the clubhouse, already has relationships with some of the younger players, and speaks English and Spanish.

Cashman said he reached out to A-Rod for guidance on the next Yankees manager but that A-Rod didn’t express any interest in the job himself.
