Nothing touches that era DMB for me but the wall of sound, rushing through it, no dynamics etc. I find to be much more the case '09 - '16 along with horrible crunchy electric tone and several other issues. It's absolutely a different sounding band now and it'll never be early 00's but I'm happy with all the changes they've made in the last couple years overall.

Frankly there are so many conversations I want to hear with all the producers. Mark Batson for Stand Up and the 2006 sessions, their leak, and Come Tomorrow. Rob Cavallo for BW and the extra 2009 sessions, and the 2013-2016 sessions. John Alagia/Rob Evans for all the songs they've helped shape and now for the WATM pandemic sessions.
Isn't Steve on record as saying that the studio cuts that he edited and handed over to the label not the versions that made it onto the album? He said someone got into Dave's head about changing them?

Couldn't agree more. The wall of sound lost me in 2015, and Buddy brought me back in 2022.

Listening on Spotify to a show from the Trax WAYYYYYY back when and man was Boyd was on this band was 🔥. I miss the violin. Obviously he's not coming back and he had his issues both personally and professionally at the end but damn the interplay within the band when he would go back and forth with the other guys with the violin was so unique and amazing.

The Folsom Field Two Step is a perfect reading of that song.

'01 isn't ultimately my favorite year, but I think the band's overall sound was at its best that year.

I love the heavy piano in those Two Steps as compared to the rock organ type thing. Those low notes on the opening hits are so good. Though Buddy was adding a lot more piano on the tune last year in the choruses and outro, which sounded great.

If there's one guitarist the band might be able to get on stage to guest, it's Robert Cray. Tim and Trey who?

Saw them last year at Venkman's near Ponce City Market, good time. The violinist overdoes it, but still a good time. Singer doesn't sound quite like Dave, as much as some of the other cover band singers do. If they were playing inside the perimeter I'd go again.

The best version of I'll Back You Up was on 3/23/07 (Live Trax 9) because of Rashawn's work on the performance https://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.a...=93&where=2007

Hahaha! That is funny. I just watched Copperpot's video of that night but unfortunately there are not shots of Boyd when it happens.

This reminds me of a (non DMB) practical joke I heard about. One of my friend's dad was they keyboardist/musical director for Kenny Loggins back in the day. There was a song where Kenny would hold out a long note and then the band would come in (kind of like Watchtower). On the last night of the tour, the whole band snuck off the stage while he was singing the note. When he turned around to see why the band wasn't coming in, they were all gone.

don't know if this is a DMB thought but how long do you all expect to keep visiting this forum for? I've been doing it out of habit for quite a long while now even though my interest in the band has diminished significantly over the years.
Anyway... just caught myself refreshing the site again even though at this point I'm only interested in certain remasters. And the community's obviously dwindled as well. Maybe it's time I removed the ants bookmark?
