Re: Rooftop

Been a fan since 98 and this song sounds like old DMB to me as well. Reminds me of DIDO a bit musically between the moving riff and the feel of the bridge.

Is it fair to say that the fans from the 90s like this song a lot? This song is awesome and just because it has that 135 stretch doesnt make it sounds like fool to think, 34, or any of the other songs that have that stretch...

the bridge makes me want to scream of happiness. For being such a heavy song, and also for having such a fun chorus, I think this song has great lyrics. Especially relates to the situation I'm in right now too, lol.

I was just going to post these lyrics. I got goosebumps when I heard this part. I remember someone who heard the album early saying this song had lyrics suggesting the two lovers from "Say Goodbye" ran into each other years later. I thought it was stupid at first, but these lyrics nail it.

This however makes some sense. But I definitely enjoy the song.
I think the guitar parts do, Broken Things sounds more like DMB. But I don't care what this song sounds like. I just know that I can't stop listening to it.

The bridge is one of the best Dave has every written. i wish the bridge could be turned into a whole song, its that frickin good. The song as a whole has to grow on me a bit, but I cant stop singing the bridge in my head.

Can anybody else hear Carter testing out cymbals in the background during the jam between roof top and drunken soldier? I always heard him talking in the background but i listened to it through good headphones while playing the song on drums and I heard him looking for the right cymbals. I just thought it was cool to hear it.

I'd say its the catchiest song on the album, and one of the two that compete for my favorite at any given moment (along with snow outside).

I love this song minus the chorus. Dave doesn't write good lyrics as consistently as he used to, especially in choruses. I do really enjoy this album though. The riff and broken things are just too damn good.

There are definitely cool parts of the song, but the chorus doesn't do it for me.

Probably my second least favorite after If Only
    Maybe third after Belly Full

"rooftop" is in my top three and has been in my top three since my first listen to the album. ironically, it hints to me what the songs on everyday could have been like if they hadn't been written in a week and if the whole band had been fully involved in the creative process. it's got a solid 80s/electric pop rock feel to it, but it is far more interesting because the elements that give it that character are bundled up in interesting arrangements and subtle time signature changes. musically, it gives you the comfortable feeling that you know where you are, but, in reality, you have no idea where you're going next.

verses and bridge are sooo good. but the chorus disrupts the song and is a bit boring. if it wasn't for that this song would be pretty high on my list.
