I really can’t fathom why they didn’t put that 2015 Cavallo album out. We basically ended up with half the album + the Batson project. Should’ve been two separate albums...

Would be curious on the WHY of why that one got scrapped, or at least partially scrapped given certain songs from it made it onto come tomorrow. I mean, that was all done and finished a 1+ years before the stuff with boyd. Now granted, boyd being gone now means highly unlikely any of that stuff get revisited unless it gets re-recorded unless violin parts are scrubbed, but I dunno. We’ll see what’s on this 2020 quarantine album...

And they put so much effort into it and brought so many people in. Strange

Probably a Boyd problem is my unfounded speculation.

Agreed. I am willing to bet that at least some of it has to do with Boyd's issues at the time.

If I recall, the carpel tunnel issues were in 2014 where he kept dropping his bow. If the album was recorded in 2015, they may have intended a release in 2016 but then they took a break and he never came back.

Knowing how Dave felt about his level of effort, maybe the vibe wasn't what he wanted for an album.

On the surface an odd thing for sure. Of the producer hodgepodge in Come Tomorrow, Cavallo is easily my favorite, and it's no coincidence that the best songs on the album are Cavallo songs. The early BW stuff, just post Roi, based on interviews, quotes etc. really made it seem like Roi and Cavallo hit it off and understood each other and that makes me respect the guy. Wish we could have heard the result of that relationship within the rest of the band. Based on the behind the scenes clips that never became anything and even that first four seconds of the first inside the studio clip from 2008, seemed like Cavallo was gonna have Roi all over that record. The way he got choked up when talking about him in the come tomorrow videos, just leads me to believe they really got along in the short period of time they knew each other.

My biggest compliment to him is unleashing Carter on BW, the guy knows how to track Carter.

Hate how his albums always turn into sound bricks, but if we believe Batson, Dave is a big reason for hot ass mixes and masters.

Yes that was originally part of the 2020 dates, it was rescheduled along with the rest of the tour in May.

Boyd should leak the 2015 sessions. If he doesn't, he's totally cucking himself for Dave.

Boyd prob doesn’t even know those sessions too place. He’s lost somewhere in Narnia.

He just needs to leak the vault. Too much good stuff in there to keep hidden. Unless of course, he wants to remain a cuck.

What songs were recorded during those sessions?

    - Samurai Cop
    - Virginia
    - B&BB
    - Again & Again
    - Bismarck
    - Death on the High Seas
    - Be Yourself

Am I missing some? Boyd really didn't have much of a place on any of those songs live anyway, I believe he was muted for all of them besides DOTHS.

Cutting Plastic Girl was a smart decision. Morphing Be Yourself into an instrumental was also a smart decision. But cutting Bismarck and DOTHS was really stupid.

Should’ve replaced When I’m Weary with DOTHS as the final track and thrown Bismarck somewhere in there. Or at the very least included it as a B-side/bonus track.

I think it was BruceW or someone who told us there really wasn’t much left over from the sessions that produced AFTW.

That's what I initially thought, but the post could be referring to a Bismarck studio cut.

Right. But there was at least one or two. I know for sure that at a minimum, one song did not make the album but I was told it may not have ever made it beyond the very early stages of composition.

I actually bet Be Yourself would have at least been a great studio track. I'll never be able to get over how bad the verse lyrics were, but it was probably a SMLAM level studio cut. Plastic Girl wasn't great but what really made that song embarrassing was the bridge, I could have lived with the rest.

We also know they were working on some "funky" songs we probably don't know much about. There was that weird clip of Dave in the clown wig with some funk music at the studio playing in the background, then those clips Rashawn made with all the horn parts.

The gold mine of unreleased Cavallo tracks would have to be Sugar Will and Shotgun though. I can't remember if they worked Break Free or not.

    Shotgun as well.

Studio Break Free pre-dates the Batson Sessions but in not so great quality:

Sorry- Yes I know and I've heard those, I just meant the Cavallo specific versions. I bet his Shotgun is the most complete studio version that exists, and I'd love to hear if he did Break Free just to see what his production was able to do with the song.

    Re: New Album Coming Soon?

I assume a Cavallo produced album would've included something like:

    Samurai Cop
    Again and Again
    Virginia in the Rain
    Here on Out
    Be Yourself
    Sugar Will
    Death on the High Seas
    Black and Bluebird
    Bismarck
    Cha Cha
    Callalily

And maybe one or two of Good Good Time, Crazy Easy, or Idea of You based on how much those were played when those studio sessions were going on. I don't think Plastic Girl would've made the album, they knew that one wasn't very good. The reception when it was played was pretty non-existent.
