Re: I don't know about you, but I'm feeling '22 (tour chat)
My thoughts from watching on couch tour:
I've never been the biggest fan of Break Free or Break For It but it was really nice seeing those songs come back (Break For It played for the first time since I was a sophomore in High School, wasn't even really into the band at that point).
Shotgun was fantastic. I had chills watching the stream, so I can only imagine how it felt for those at the venue who were chasing it. I think Dave's voice sounded better on Shotgun than it did in 2016, where he never went for the big high note. The fact that 6 years later he went for it says to me that he is much more confident in his voice. I don't get the complaining from some on here about his voice, or really anything about the liberations - the band is playing these songs for the first time in forever and they sound like they never shelved them, speaks to the incredible talent on the stage.
I actually liked the early set You and Me. Also nice to see some "late-set" songs played early (DDTW, Rapunzel, You and Me).
I thought The Only Thing sounded so much better on the acoustic, the lyric switch works for me, and it highlighted just how polished this band sounds right now. It made me like that song, which I previously felt so-so about.
Carter also continues to settle in to his playing style changes that he started making in 2018. He's picking his spots tremendously instead of smashing the drums on every song. I text my buddy throughout each show and I must have said 5 times "dude how, he's 63 years old". Never ceases to amaze me!
Fantastic show, with Shotgun being the highlight of my last few years of fandom.
