If DMB put out Two Step today this board would collectively cum it’s pants in praise after the mostly dogshit this band has put out for almost 20 years.

Yeah that's a pretty ridiculous statement. Two Step was one of the studio songs that I played over and over and over... Two Step, #41, and Say Goodbye were probably the 3 songs that most converted me from a casual DMB fan to a "die hard". I'll reserve my final comments for after I finally hear the album from start to finish... but, based on the song times and hearing Again and Again, TGIY, and Samurai Cop... and knowing how I'm not a huge fan of the other songs I've already heard... It's pretty safe to say that none of these songs are even close to as interesting as Two Step, #41, or Say Goodbye. (putting it mildly)

Edit: DDTW is also miles more interesting.

Edit #2: However, I wouldn't say the past 20 years worth of songs were Dog sh*t either... LITHOG, Break Free, Sugar Will, and others come to mind.

It's a disappointment. I give it a 4. No real standout tracks, and honestly just a very boring album throughout.

Musically, this album is probably a 6-7. Lyrically it is a 2. I gave it a 5 overall, being a bit generous.

If Dave from 1990 wrote the lyrics to this music and they dropped the 2 dave solo songs from the album, it might in their top 5.

over 70 percent of the people that voted gave this album a 6 or higher, which is something you would not expect reading some of these threads where the same 15 people repeat themselves 60 times.

Definitely this. Lyrically I think it’s their worst outing. Musically, it’s interesting enough. Some songs more than others.

You wouldn’t know looking at the comments here. All the sudden AFTW is some grand achievement. Why? Simple. Because the band all but abandoned it. If AFTW got the play BW did it would be absolutely shit on by now.

    Re: Rate the Album

I give it a 5 after a couple of listens. I think there are some good songs on there, but the lack of cohesion gets to me and since we are ranking this as an ALBUM and not just a group of songs I have to take some points off for that. Also, some of the production choices like the WOOOOs in DYR, the sirens at the end of BBB, the phone call at the end of SC are all head scratchers to me. I love interludes and random sounds between songs on albums, but these seem very nonsensical to me and detract more than they add anything. Also bkdkdkdd-> is super weird to my ears. Would have made more sense going into CS or She.

    BTCS - 10
    UTTAD and LWS - 9
CRASH and BS (and SD) - 8
    BWGK - 7
    AFTW - 6
    CS - 5
    ED - 3
    SU - 2

There has been a ton of criticism of AFTW in the last couple of weeks and months. Poke around the Come Tomorrow thread.

    AFTW remains an underrated album.

Judas Priest released an album this year...Firepower. 18th studio album. If you didn’t know it...you’d think it was released after Screaming for Vengeance in the early 80’s. They say they went back and looked at the music that created them...organically and naturally and built upon that. Perhaps if DMB took such an approach..

    Re: Rate the Album

Also, those two polls were ridiculous bait questions to show how people view things with rose colored glasses. This poll shows that most people give it 6+ rating, which is a completely reasonable point of view. IF there was a poll that said "Is this the best thing since Everyday?" and "Yes" won, I would agree with the idea that it's too early to give an opinion...but this is a pretty standard question

Or the active ones now? Because in the active ones, some people are calling it the worst album in the catalog, hollow, boring, soulless etc... A lot of us still stand by it, but plenty of people don't like it at all.

People didn't all of a sudden start loving it when Come Tomorrow came out, and universally so, like some are implying. It is a fairly polarizing album, and has been for some time.

I don't even know what point you're arguing here. Who said it's too early to rate Come Tomorrow?

What we're talking about now, is whether or not there's been some sudden overwhelming positive support for AFTW.

edit: Nevermind... I backread a little more. I see what you're talking about. It's just not what I'm talking about.
