Really excited about this! I saw Fall '98 and made an instant purchase for the FLACs. Didn't even look at the setlist until after and I'm even more excited now. I love this era of the band, and I feel like the fact that they had no guests, it's only 13 or so songs, and it's not a show I've honestly really heard or read anything about, leads me to believe it's probably a really fire show from a performance standpoint that's flown under the radar because of the other absolutely stellar shows from that same tour with more guests, rarer setlists, etc. I'm really looking forward to it. And I want to show my support for releases from this era by giving them my money when they release one. The money, and pre-orders, send a message; I want them to think favorably on releasing shows from this era in the future. <img src="images/smilies/upyours.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Thumbs Up [ ]" class="inlineimg">

Hopefully they can release a show with Buddy to help scratch that itch for those that are passing on this one.
Anything from 98 is great, but choosing this show in particular is....interesting.

A lot of the taper pulls are pretty rough given the indoor venues so I welcome any late '98 releases.

For me, this series has become about moments. Give me shows with special moments. Mayer at Hollywood Bowl, Roots at Alpine, Matisyahu at Toronto or Darien (yea i just said that), The Virginia Tech Show, Vote for Change.. Fuck even when Zac Brown guested.

Anything different than stale sets of songs we have 50+ releases of already.

I get it, 98 was fire, but I won't listen to it and think to myself "man this sounds so much better than Worcester, chicago, and philly". It will sound similar to me.

Sadly where i'm at with this band.

They won't get my money until it's something unique.

Yeah, I can understand this. Would you (collective you to all who are disappointed) be more excited about this show if it was selected for the next exclusive SiriusXM show? I’m looking forward to the release but I agree that the past 3 or 4 LTs have all been pretty “standard” sets.

Considering those concerts were about a week after this one, and had very similar (but slightly longer) setlists as this one, I wonder why they didn't release one of those.

Was it because they don't have high quality recordings of those shows either? (Remember: just because they taped the show, that doesn't mean they have a flawless recording on file in 2020)

Do they think a Canadian show won't sell well? (That would explain why they've never released a Canadian show)

Was the Portland show just a better show?

I'll buy as many 1998 shows as they release, so I'm not complaining, but I am curious.

I think this whole thread proves that the claim of "Antsmarching.org doesn't care about rarity! We just want good songs!" is complete BS.

1998 is one of the band's best years, but we've got quite a few winter shows from that year already (and if we're going to do another winter tour show, there are much more interesting selections).

No spring or summer 1998 shows released yet, though.

The previous show (10.31) has already been released as a LT. And this is the least rare show of the tour. No guests or anything else to make it stand out.

Look, it's winter 1998. It'll be a solid show. And if they're picking offbeat venues/locations (Maine for 52, Idaho for 53) that's intriguing, too. But still, odd.
I hate to break it to you, but most of those tapes have been lost/damaged. Supposedly, that's the reason they hired an archivist in 1999.

Honestly, and I know it seems like a weird reason, but I think this might be it. Historically, the band hasn't played that many shows on Carter's birthday, and they may not even have complete recordings of the other ones. Maybe this was a special or memorable birthday for Carter, who knows? But my gut tells me that this is the main reason they decided to release this show.

Damn, is this confirmed? Also, do we know exactly when in 99 they hired said archivist? i.e. before / after the summer tour

There’s so many good shows from early on in 1998, it’d be a real shame if those recordings are gone. Maybe at the least they could scrape together the good recordings for a BTCS live compilation or something.

I agree, it appears it was Carter’s 40th bday. and we now have birthday shows for 4/5 “OG” members:

    Dave - China Club 1.9.04
    Carter - Boise 11.2.98
    Stefan - Virginia Beach 6.4.96
    Roi - Gorge 9.7.02

There’s two options for Boyd’s bday show. 5.16.99 and 5.16.02

I withhold judgment until I hear it, and I will hear it because I'll buy any 98 show

if the mix and performances are top notch I am more than happy to hear more good songs on an official release

This post is at war with itself. Say these are stale songs, but every example of a show wasn't about not stale songs, it was about guests.

You won't think it sounds better, but similar to shows that were full of guests and moments.

It’d be really cool if management said, “hey the next Live Trax is going to be from ____ tour, here are three shows we’re considering” and then give people a chance to vote.

I'm going to preorder this tonight. I'm in the minority that would purchase every single Fall '98 show if they were released (all 30), similar to what the Dead did with Europe '72. Give us everything in one box.

Maybe that was why it was ultimately not released?

I’m going to buy, because I’m in the boat of people that would buy any fall 98 show that gets released.

But with that being said, if they did release every single fall 98 show at once, this would possibly be the last one I’d listen to.

Live Trax 53 could have been better, but could have been much much much worse.

I gladly welcome anything from '98. the 10.31.98 show is really stellar, but this particular setlist is a head scratcher. Hoping for a fire performance!

Still holding out hope for 12.7.98 and 11.21.98, but dang, will probably be a while till LT comes back to 98 now.

I also agree about 99. Especially early in that tour when it was back to being a 5 piece and BTCS wasn't a total and complete afterthought some nights.
