I guess that's good news? It means they think there's at least a *possibility* of live shows this season. I wouldn't get my hopes up

excited to have it back but curious what it'll be like with no audience. I wonder how they'll do the weekly guests too.

JUST IN: Jim Carrey will play VP Joe Biden on this season of SNL.

The show will start the new season with five consecutive shows on Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and is planning to have "a limited in-studio audience at Rockefeller Center," per NBC.

Lorne did an interview with Vulture: https://www.vulture.com/2020/09/snl-...joe-biden.html

Despite trying to quit the role the past two years, Alec is back as Trump. Maya will be Kamala.

Love Baldwin's Trump. Maya's "Funt" Kamala is excellent, too.

But none of them are cast members. I don't mind a cameo from time to time but for a recurring character it should be going to cast members.

Eh, I'm fine with it. I thought they had a fine balance last season of not making the show solely about Trump/politics. Carrey also once auditioned for the show, so it's cool to see him kinda get on it. Maya was an all-timer (IMO), so she's royalty.

SNL has always had it's cast, it's "featuring", and then many "Special Guests". Steve Martin plays Steve Martin every time he pops up, as host or otherwise

I'm fine with Carrey being Biden, I just wish they hadn't announced it. Let it be a surprise.

They probably did it to bring in some extra viewers but it would've been exciting to randomly see Jim show up.

Things like that are probably getting harder and harder to keep a surprise. Especially in these days where everyone is connected to the internet.

Yeah, I kinda have to agree with this. As great as Jim Carrey will be (no doubt) and Alec Baldwin has been, I kinda miss the days when it was all regular cast members/featured players instead of all this "stunt" casting. The last SNL cast member to have played the President was Jay Pharoah in 2016!

watching right now. I just realized while watching Weekend Update that the bit when Ryan Reynolds showed up as Colin Jost's best friend that they have Scarlett Johannson in common. But they were both professional about it - you'd never know that they were both married to her at one point or currently.

Have they said if they're doing guest hosts or musical guests? It's hard to imagine SNL without either but would totally understand them not.

Just came in to post. Can't wait for Rock, they should let him do stand up for opening monologue like Louis CK. Don't know MTS but should be a great show. I for one am curious on Carrey as Biden.

LOVED Chris Rock's bit when Eddie Murphy hosted.

"When I got hired, Lorne Michaels told me I was going to be the next Eddie Murphy. And then a year later he said, 'No you’re not'.”
