Vanderbilt 2009 was high on my shows I've been too hoping to get released someday and when that bonus disc came out in 2018 and had Why I Am on it, I asked Jake (remember that guy? ) if that killed the show's chances of ever getting released. And he said its quite the opposite and hinted that one was actually on the radar and the Why I Am inclusion was a positive sign it would be on the way.

I’m going back and forth with the deluxe vinyl. I don’t have a record player but I like collecting Dave stuff. After hearing and enjoying monsters, im leaning towards getting one (now that I enjoy at least 7 of the 12 songs on the album), but still on the fence.

If there was a pre order bonus with exclusive studio cuts I would pre order for sure.

    Oof.

I finally gave up with this album. I'll pick up a copy eventually. The retail version won't be hard to find, and probably eventually a bit cheaper.

I think for a lot of people it depends on the execution of the songs in-studio and the sequencing

I have not pre-ordered the new album and will LIKELY get it after it comes out, but probably not right at release time.

I've been pre-ordering all of the albums digitally going all the way back to 2009 with Big Whiskey, since there was usually some form of bonus content involved (Live Trax, live compilation, etc...). It was more expensive to pre-order on the official store when considering the exchange rate (I'm in Canada), but the bonus content made it worthwhile.

Without the incentive, I'll probably just listen to the album on Spotify, and eventually buy it.

It was really a big letdown to get on the pre-order pages and not see any bonus content.

I do applaud the bravery from some of you.
I'm not mad at them, or trying to make a point to the general public or anything like that for not releasing bonus songs. I'm assuming they have a reason for moving away from that model for these last two releases. But these days with so many options to stream the music, they really have to offer something extra or interesting to make me want to buy the physical album. That's just me. I've bought every deluxe version and got in on all the bonus discs for as long as they've been offering them. I honestly don't know why I would pre-order this one unless I really wanted some of the vinyl variants.

I get where you're coming from, too. But even being my favorite band isn't doing it for me this time around.

    Agreed on both.

I don't have a great feeling about it. I seriously doubt they can make STTMB something that it's not, but who knows, they might hit it out of the park with production. Trying not to be completely negative.

If they weren't keen on including unused studio tracks - Blu-ray of live performances would have been a cool inclusion akin to Away From The World.

Considering the last 2 years they have a good number of performances of song on the album - Walk Around The Moon, The Only Thing, Break Free, Singing From The Windows, The Ocean and the Butterfly, Something To Tell My Baby and Madman's Eyes - to choose from and mix with 5-6 older classics/unique songs. But their diving into the Drive-Ins probably killed their desire to release more DVD/Blu-rays discs...while also not giving us any new full concerts on their YouTube channel.

Yeah, because the bonus studio songs were probably ones Dave didn't think fit on the album, but were better songs and would've upstaged the actual album. Picture this album with a bunch of tiny songs and BS like STTMB, SFTW, etc having a bonus disc with Shotgun, Sweet Up and Down, Crazy Easy, A Dream So Real, etc.

The bands management team gave us literally no incentive to pre-order this album. Ill buy it when it comes out. Why would I spend money on this now to wait 4 months? If I got a bonus disc or something extra for pre-ordering (which is usually the case) then I would.

I'll buy it after it comes out even if it sucks cause I like supporting the band and I want to hear another one. But I won't pre-order this one

I pre-ordered, but not through the band. I did it on Amazon for free shipping with prime. It MIGHT arrive on release date but not a big deal because I can stream on Spotify on release date.

I don't really do vinyl outside of a few special things - I have DMB 25 and a couple others.

Absolutely no reason to pre order on the bands page unless you are into vinyl and want the special colors. Otherwise it was complete and utter trash. They should be embarrassed with that.

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

Oddly I've not pre-ordered, when I was 100% sure I would. The two main reasons for not doing anything were:
    - the tracklist (expecting more songs in general and hoping for the balance of the tunes to be in favor of unplayed new tunes), as having heard 6 of 12 was a bit of a bummer
    - the lack of bonus materials, of more unreleased new tunes and/or archival stuff (knowing, despite my desire otherwise, we weren't going to get the 20+ track double album)

With bonus materials that weren't live stuff, I'd've pre-ordered at least one vinyl variant, but likely two.

The lack of complete details on the announcement day regarding variants was a minor detail that also caused a bit of pause.

I'm honestly shocked at my current lack of enthusiasm for this release. Still more hyped for the new Nickel Creek and hoping that the Avetts drop something out of the blue soon-ish-ly.

The new album thread had all sorts of excitement and activity with trolls and new alters and the whole 9 yards when they dropped MME, some more excitement with Monsters, I'd expect more of the same going forward as things to be excited about become available.

To me the whole concept of preordering is to make sure you get something that is limited in nature. Could be a bonus disc of b-sides or live music or a behind the scenes video or artwork. A photo book doesn’t cut it for me. I’ll save myself the shipping and pick it up at target at some point.

That option conveniently left off. Definitely a possibility for me. I'll let the product speak for itself since it is so easy to stream nowadays. They have the most frustrating and botched album process from a fan perspective that drags on for three years and I ultimately don't like the product why on earth would I support it monetarily?

This is true, but we knew 8/13 for CT and most of them were liked until we heard the album versions, almost all of which were disappointing in some way. Songs matter, but so does production.

I should have added a sixth choice, because I would be curious to know how many already know they won't buy it. Probably quite a few.
