How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

Curious if the lack of bonus material or certain songs keep people from pre-ordering WATM.

I preordered one of every vinyl version, but mainly because I’m a completist.

Being a completist is a sickness! haha... but I understand.

How many vinyl versions did there end up being?

You didn't do the Deluxe version? Or are you missing the standard black version?

I did the 180g Deluxe one. I'm still trying to figure out if I have to buy the 150g one to call myself "complete" or not.

Oof.

I finally gave up with this album. I'll pick up a copy eventually. The retail version won't be hard to find, and probably eventually a bit cheaper.

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

I didn't see the need to. I don't care about vinyl, and I don't think they're gonna run out of digital downloads. For all I know, it'll leak a month before, and then I paid for nothing.

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

The lack of any kind of bonus discs was a big factor. I don't own a vinyl player, even though I own a couple of albums in case I ever do get one...

I will rarely order a Live Trax if it doesn't have a bonus disc. If it does, it's an instant purchase. (Yes completionism mentality is a sickness!)

I'm pretty sure I have all the main bonus discs... Just missing stuff like the singles from Crash and BTCS where there are a couple bonus songs. Missing those and the Europe AFTW "purple" bonus disc which I've been told is fantastic. Just haven't gotten around to buying one off Ebay.

I'll purchase the album from iTunes when it comes out, and if I like it, maybe the vinyl with the art book will still be available. I will defiantly be ordering the BTCS vinyl if that ever gets put into production again.

Hoping Walk Around the Moon is great and this summer tour goes well too.
Cheers!

Why would I preorder? Dave didn't even promote the album at the Mexico resort trip. I really wanted more advertising there.

Would only pre order if there was an incentive. Seeing as there are none whatsoever, I did not and will not.

I think this is the play. It's 2023. Most people are going to check it out via streaming.

That’s what I’ll be doing.

It’s a shame they didn’t do anything to get me to want to actually purchase their new album. Didn’t purchase Come Tomorrow either, so that’ll be 0 purchased studio albums for me in over a decade.

Hadn’t actually thought about that until right now…

Fair enough. Most people are listening to the album via streaming. There's people who want physical media, and there's plenty of options for that.

The band isn't forcing anyone's hand into a physical copy they don't want with exclusive content. This is a win-win for fans.

Clearly bonuses don't work with Come Tomorrow, so no need for them here.

What were the “bonuses” with Come Tomorrow?

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

I think the majority of people pre ordering this are probably vinyl users. If you don’t have a record player why buy it? That’s at the heart of all the nos here. Why else wouldn’t you buy it? $30, right? If you have a record player and you’re not buying the vinyl,

The exact reason I won't preorder. I'll just wait and buy a copy from my local record store. If they add bonus tracks, then I'll preorder. I think this is the first time there's no bonus tracks or disc for an album release. Such a drag.

Did not pre-order and will not buy it in any traditional format. I just want to stream it.

I should have added a Not going to buy it at all option. I'm actually in that camp. Although I guess if it ends up being a Big 4 album I'll get it on vinyl. Otherwise, just stream it.

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

Its my favorite band. Its their new album. I am a purveyor of physical media and enjoy collecting their studio stuff (and some of their live ones) on vinyl. Easily went in for 1 deluxe vinyl. Not really that difficult or that deep a decision for me. Didn't need incentive either (tho, yes, would have been cool), I was buying it anyway.

I do applaud the bravery from some of you.

I'm not mad at them, or trying to make a point to the general public or anything like that for not releasing bonus songs. I'm assuming they have a reason for moving away from that model for these last two releases. But these days with so many options to stream the music, they really have to offer something extra or interesting to make me want to buy the physical album. That's just me. I've bought every deluxe version and got in on all the bonus discs for as long as they've been offering them. I honestly don't know why I would pre-order this one unless I really wanted some of the vinyl variants.

I get where you're coming from, too. But even being my favorite band isn't doing it for me this time around.

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

If they weren't keen on including unused studio tracks - Blu-ray of live performances would have been a cool inclusion akin to Away From The World.

Considering the last 2 years they have a good number of performances of song on the album - Walk Around The Moon, The Only Thing, Break Free, Singing From The Windows, The Ocean and the Butterfly, Something To Tell My Baby and Madman's Eyes - to choose from and mix with 5-6 older classics/unique songs. But their diving into the Drive-Ins probably killed their desire to release more DVD/Blu-rays discs...while also not giving us any new full concerts on their YouTube channel.

Yeah, because the bonus studio songs were probably ones Dave didn't think fit on the album, but were better songs and would've upstaged the actual album. Picture this album with a bunch of tiny songs and BS like STTMB, SFTW, etc having a bonus disc with Shotgun, Sweet Up and Down, Crazy Easy, A Dream So Real, etc.

This is my view, except I've never been into vinyl, so I've pre-ordered the CD, since I have every other studio CD they've released.

Bonus content would make me consider buying different versions or a more expensive package, but it has no bearing on whether or not I buy the album itself.

That said, while I have the preorder in on Amazon (b/c free shipping, and faster than from DMB), but I may cancel that and just go into a local store on May 19th and pick it up.

I'm also considering buying the digital download just to save myself the effort of actually ripping thr CD when I get it. Yes, I realize it's ridiculous when I'll be listening to the mp3s rather than the CDs anyway, but at least I'm not buying all the vinyls of the rainbow. I'm also not paying for any streaming services, otherwise that'd probably replace the download.
