That's right! I love Stand Up and I'm not afraid to say it! Is it "Before These Crowded Street"? No. Were the '04 songs better and recorded by the right person would have made an incredible album? Yep. But did that happen? Nope. So get over it. The songs on Stand Up are really good and deserve every play they get.
Dreamgirl - is a nice little love song and doesn't deserve the hate and '05 versions have some BEAUTIFUL Roi work
Old Dirt Hill - was not my favorite but grew on me
Stand Up - is so much fun and is reminiscent of old DMB(especially live with Lawlor) also doesn't deserve the hate
American Baby - is kick.ass.
American Baby Intro - OWNS
Smooth Rider - (it's 2 minutes of a 14 track album + bonus tracks...move on people, it's not that bad)
Everybody Wake Up - is as close to the "old DMB sound" as it's going to get on the album
Out of My Hands - is just beautiful
Hello Again - (OK...Batson fucked this one in the asshole)
Louisiana Bayou - is Tripping Billies-esque and is awesome live
Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd - is a great interaction between Roi and Boyd and as we all found out from the
Share your unpopular DMB opinions. thread, it's a secret fan favorite
You Might Die Trying - is an ass kicker - especially live
Steady As We Go and Hungry for the Great Light - are fucking terrible and are what gives Stand Up a bad name. Hungry for the Great Light does kick ass live though, but it is the bands WORST studio recording.
All that being said I am expecting the usual responses such as "just, no", "you're an idiot", "if you love this album then you're not really a DMB fan",
,
, "hahahaha" and so many more. But the more you start appreciating what the band gives us and quit comparing everything to "The Big 3" then the happier you may find yourself as a DMB fan. I love Stand Up. I love Everyday. I love Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. I am, and always be, the biggest Dave Matthews Band there is. Every band deserves a chance to experiment with their sound. That's just how art works. You push your boundaries, you try new things, just how it works. Best lyrics ever? No but a great album from a great band.
