Darien June 27,2018

Very strong show. Tremendous energy. Highlights for me: a lovely Squirm, a killer Jimi that included a stellar battle between Buddy and Tim, and another strong brass segment by Jeff and Rashawn, and a very special Captain. I was concerned that Dave’s strained voice issues that were evident at CMAC the night before would hamper him at Darien. If so he didn’t show it. On a classic rainy Darien day, Dave (and Carter)were clearly enjoying the evening as were all other band “members “. Yes I like many others very much miss the violin. Much of the DMB songbook includes significant violin and those songs will never sound the same without one. But...I for one am beginning to embrace and enjoy the same “old” songs in a different way. As good as it is and while the band will continue as least for the moment to evolve without a violin, imagine how good they could be with the “Strong” keys and vocals of Buddy with the addition of a violinist.
One thing however is clear. Dave is really enjoying and embracing this new sound and the other members are right there with him. Dave is the captain of this ship and I no longer fear where its going!!
