Re: NPR Review of Come Tomorrow
I didn't like the review. In his conclusion, he claims he didn't approach CT hoping for Dave to be political. Buuuuut for the entire review, he complains that Dave has somehow "abandoned" politics in the most dire times.
I have two main problems with this:
1) The guy obviously misinterpreted the song Come Tomorrow. He says Dave and "all the adults" have given up, which he then extrapolates to say that Come Tomorrow (the album) is some sort of "fuck it, I don't care any more" message. I read the song as a very straightforward "pass the torch to the youth" song (not a "fuck it, we're done. Kids come save us"). Sort of like Raven, but not subtle at all. I don't understand how you could fail to understand the messaging on a song that's so straightforward.
2) The guy acts like EVERY song Dave wrote before 2018 was Cry Freedom... Buddy, most of Dave's earliest songs weren't political statements. If you want 100% of every album to be a political statement, there aren't many artists out there for you.
Also, to clarify, I'm liberal as fuck and I love NPR
