Not sure what to make of them referring to Here On Out as “lush” and Black & Blue Bird being “conparitively spare”.

It sounds like Josh Modell hates it but can't say it.

yeah I don't get that sense at all. I get the sense he hates 90s DMB but likes this effort.

And it vaguely sounds like Boyd is scrubbed off the album. Scrub-a-dub-dub.

Please don’t over analyze the small review guys. This has always been Rolling Stones style of reviews as far as I know

I do think his analysis of Idea of You is true. I think that song will be big on the radio. Kind of thought they would release for Memorial Day.

    Re: rolling stone review

Yeah, whenever a Dave album comes out, they seem to always give it 3.5 stars and write a little bit of nothing about nothing that says nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they do to other albums (besides anything by U2 or Taylor Swift), but why even write a review if you aren't going to say anything? It's lazy and pointless...

    Re: rolling stone review

I do hope IOY is the 3rd single off the album, because IOY was meant to be a great radio single. Samurai Cop works fine as a single, but TGIY was a very odd choice for a single IMO, especially when you're still sitting on IOY. Heck, Come Tomorrow could even make a decent single.

Bad writing, doesn't even make sense. Reads like the writer didn't even listen to it. Fluff. Next.

Boyd out of the photo was all I took away from that. Wonder if Buddy will be in the next photo shoot.

    Re: rolling stone review

Rolling Stone is aware this page is going to see a lot of unique visitors from a very sought after demography so it's a bit of a headscratch why they would assign this (ad space) to such a dilettante? It's one-half remembered dream, one-third farts and thesaurus entries make-up the rest!

IOY is apparently the album's tentpole and Josh Modell does not like DMB or 1990s era rock music. That's the takeaway here. "Gangster!"

I'm usually a RS defender, but for this review to not mention that Leroi is on the album 11 years after his death and the whole Boyd thing is just bad journalism.

Pretty sure if you showed this writer a police line-up of the current band and asked him to point out which one was Dave Matthews he'd get it wrong.

It would be fun to fuck with him and ask him to point out Boyd Tinsley too, while he's at it.
