my interpretation of the above response was that people tend to ridiculously rate things after they comes out.

edit: Yea two different points...We are actually agreeing, I think most these polls actually hold up well.

    Yea, see my edit.

I keyed in on Bluewater's post and went off a tangent from that. I missed the overall context of what y'all were talking about. I'm like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie...

So my linking that poll was to show that the love for AFTW isn't some new fad, not to show that albums initially get overrated (though I do agree with that point as well, to an extent.)

As much as the actual songs are of higher lyrical quality on Busted Stuff, I would argue that the actual music of this album is 100 percent more lively and interesting than BS....even Bartender (the greatest DMB song ever IMO) sounds fucking BORING on that record. I gave this album an, 8, and really it's a 7.5, but I totally defend it being better than BS in the sense that I just described. BS Captain wishes it could sound as full and complex as Again and Again.

Yea, Busted Stuff is tricky to rate because the tendency is to rate it according to how great we know those songs are, as opposed to limiting the rating to how they actually sound on that album (which is not good.)

    A soggy 2.
This album definitely doesn't sound over-produced. I can see why Dave finally spoke up and and put his foot down.

This really is "Best of What's Around Vol 2" with Help Myself imported from the (Scream soundtrack) 1997 sessions.

Busted Stuff is a pretty garbage album besides YNK. The rest was phoned in. They didn’t give a fuck and it shows very clearly.

The Grateful Dead never had any good studio albums.
    American Beauty.
    Workingman’s Dead.
    Maybe..
Thanks for those two albums Jerry.

If a 1995 Dave Matthews heard a band play Come Tomorrow (the song), he would not let such a band come within 2000 miles of opening for his band.

So you're saying that people and their tastes change in 23 years? That's a huge development!

Not a bad record. It for sure grows on you. Haven't had a chance to crank it in the car yet, but look forward to doing so soon. The band lost their studio sound we are used to when Roi passed. You can really feel his absence. But hey onward and upward, they are a new band now. Can't wait seeing them in Toronto pit, then off to Ottawas show. Can't wait.

Just listened and I literally have zero desire to listen again. It just sounds so cheesy? Not sure if that's the word but it lacks any kind of character and sounds almost amateur to me.

It's a solid 6 for me right now. That is a lot better than the 2 or 3 I thought it would be. Could creep up to a 7 depending on how some of the undecided songs grow on me.

The production is incredibly weak on BS, but the songs are so strong that it overcomes that and is still a solid 8/9

After listening now to the actual release, this is a solid 7 album for me. It lacks any sort of flow but song for song I really enjoy it. Stand out songs for me right now are She, IOY, and DYR with Come On Come on growing.

I was really curious how, with the four producers, they were going to make this thing flow/work as a cohesive piece.

I got my answer... they didn't.

Awesome that fans had the opportunity to ask Mark about DMB. Hopefully he didn't catch the red glare of anyone else involved.

Haha yea definite swing and miss there. But for me, I really like most of the songs and feel a handful will evolve into good live songs. I know a lot will disagree but from a pure collection of songs stand point so far I like these more than BW AFTW ED and SU. I’m really digging She and DYR, and so far they’re great live songs too with even more room to grow.
