Didn’t Jeff and Rashawn interpolate Call Me Al in like Grey Street or Jimi or something? I vaguely remember that but I forget when it was or what song

Rashawn teased it very briefly in Warehouse once:

I'm not sure about anything else, but a quick check on the almanac didn't turn up anything.

Yep. Long Black Veil and Take Me to Tomorrow are two off the top of my head that originated as part of a tribute and became a mainstay for Dave to perform.

For the almanac crew who scans here: the order was African Skies > You Can Call Me Al

Angélique Kidjo on both songs. She kicked off African Skies and Dave came out during the second or third verse. Then Dave played most of You Can Call Me Al with the house band, danced like crazy. She came back out and finished the song with him

Thanks! Someone told me on Facebook that the house band was Rickey Minor's band, but I'm having trouble finding out who's in his current band. Any ideas? I assume everyone will be credited on the broadcast whenever it airs, but I'd love to go ahead and get the personnel updated.

it was Rickey Minor, but there were so many people in the band, it would be hard to say. I'm not sure if they were assembled in advance or just for this show. But a full horn-section, multiple backup vocalists, percussion, keys, etc. Over a dozen people I'd say

wish i could be more helpful, sorry

Is there video/audio of Call Me Al somewhere? I noticed the Almanac has a time listed for the song which usually indicates some recording of it exists somewhere lol

DMB Couch tour on Facebook posted a SoundCloud link of it. Rough audio quality due to being near fans clapping. But serviceable. I'm waiting for the full official release.

Dave played it with Ladysmith Black Mambazo back in 2014. Unfortunately all video seems to be gone.

Guessing this is getting shelved as well. No word on the salute huh? Will they air a 30 second compilation of it after NBC news one night? Or on the Grammy's website next year?

"Check out these artists honoring Paul Simon".. Zoom in, sound comes up, it's Diamonds on the soles of her shows... The zoom out and say "wow, what a great artist. I'm a huge Paul Simon band.." " MM hmmm Anchor 1, I grew up listening to Paul Simon". What a great event.

    Good night everyone!

I think DMB could completely do that song justice. It would be amazing.

I kind of want them to do Darling Lorraine but maybe make it more full and dreaming tree like.

Darling Lorraine is kind of BTCS esque song. That would be really cool. The intro almost sounds like Litho Blitho.

Maybe something that'll air on or around one of the family holidays i.e. Thanksgiving or sometime in December.

They just mentioned as “coming up” heading to commercial. But that could mean anytime in the next 42 minutes.

Almanac says he did 3 songs. Are they really going to air like 12 mins of Dave and Angelique Kidjo?

Dave's cover was fun, American Tune is such a beautiful song, solo Sound of Silence at age 81 is something else
