Nice! I want to do that soon, a few more wall tracks for hanging shit. Yesterday I finally did a half cleanup of the garage that I've been putting off for a long time. Since we did our laundry/mudroom reno there were some power tools and paint cans I needed to move back to the basement, and a bunch of stuff to throw away. Made a run to the city dumpsters.

Had been on a waitlist for months to have this week off but was only approved for Monday-Wednesday.

I log onto my computer to find that they had approved today off as well at the 11th hour. So I immediately logged off the computer and spent the day getting some much needed house and yard work done. I have a relatively small yard but we have three massive Bradford Pear trees so leaves galore. Then dishes. Then laundry. Then Costco run. Wife cooked a nice lunch and helped with laundry. I even found some good rye whiskey at the store for NYE. Hell of a day .

Went in for a follow-up appointment after a surgery and all the sudden had all kinds of complications, had to be admitted. One week and a bunch of tests and evaluations later, he's stable enough to be headed home.

Wanted to see Madonna at the TD Garden on Wednesday, August 30th. Figured it would be a sh*t show getting tickets and pricey, yada yada so didn't bother, but I actually like a lot of her older songs and figured it was a one in a lifetime thing, like if seeing Michael Jackson once live when he was performing in the 1980s (have never seen Madonna or MJ for that matter).

The wife this morning said she's going with her friend on Thursday, August 31st at the TD Garden. I had no clue there was a 2nd show added until a half hour ago. Went on TM and found a single in the balcony in the closer rows for $160, so bought a single. I'm seeing Fucking Madonna!

This is very simple geek shit, but it made me happy.

I was trying to use regular expressions to re-tag a medium sized (~230) group of .mp4s. All the dates in the %year% tag looked like 20230121, and I wanted them to look like 2023-01-21. With a regex I would search for (\d{4})(\d\d)(\d\d) and replace it with \1-\2-\3. The program I'm using doesn't do back referencing. So I had to re-learn metadata scripting, and I got it.

Tag: %year%
Replace with: $left(%year%,4)-$mid(%year%,5,2)-$right(%year%,2)

... it's a really tiny thing, but it makes me happy that I still have some cool techniques that I can apply to media files.

Was in Florida from Wednesday through Saturday with the wife as my brother, his wife and my nephew moved there in July. Got there on Wednesday night for my nephew's 4th birthday. Was able to dodge the ice freeze in Massachusetts on Saturday morning and had fantastic weather in Florida.

Had a close friend pass away. Which obviously not a happy event in itself. But it brought together our original friend group after close to 15 years apart. And we had a helluva time celebrating our friend.

Said buddy was an artist and he used to create stencils of famous artists and do spray paint on canvasses of said stencils. I had a few in my closet and once I pulled them out, I realized that all of the work he did of people, the person or persons always had these bigger-than-life smiles.

Fast forward to the lunch after the service and I find out my wife took some candid photos of us talking and trying to make each other laugh. And one of the photos has all six of us with the biggest smiles I can remember us having.

Life is short but sweet for certain

Replaced a $20 part under the hood that would've cost several hundred to have the shop do it. Haven't had to do anything like that in a while but it was kind of enjoyable, oddly. I don't love doing brakes and I don't do oil changes and messy stuff like that underneath the car, but stuff like this is alright. I didn't know what I was getting into since it was my first time doing anything on this vehicle but it went pretty smoothly.

My grandfather made it to his 90th birthday last summer (I'm 36 for reference). He just passed the day after Christmas. He was also my last grandparent.

My wife is fortunate to stiil have 3.

Thanks, he lived a wonderful life and his kids took care of him til the end.

He was mentally well up until the end too… what aged him very quickly was a broken hip around 2015. Once they start falling it doesn’t take long.

My grandmother had a hip replaced last year and eye surgery. She recovered nicely.

Yeah, probably not as bad for my and some of our family who don't celebrate Christmas, but parts of our family do.

What sucked about the timing was more trying to fly up to Boston between Christmas and New Years. And we did NYE and watched UGA win the Peach Bowl in our hotel room
