This is the 20 year anniversary of my first DMB show, and I still haven’t heard Spoon live

VERY lucky to hear it once, at Alpine, when I was just getting into DMB still. I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have but looking back, I'm blown away I saw it at all. Don't expect to see it again but it's easily in my top 5 DMB songs.

Was lucky to get this at my second show. With Boyd AND Roi. I didn’t realize what I was witnessing AND I was already a fan for four years!

I saw Dave solo Spoon at Deer Creek in 2015. I couldn't believe it. It was my 6th show, I think. Granted, this was the day after he played LYD for the first time in any setting since like 1998, so I should've expected the unexpected!

That was a great 2-nighter. Only the fifth time Spoon had ever been played Dave solo (the other four were for radio broadcasts, so first time at an actual show) and the last time before that was 12.1.98.

Same here. It's basically the last song I'm chasing at this point.

It is shocking to me when I looked and saw this was only played in full and by the whole band 23 (!) times and that I've actually seen it live with the band (and also with D&T)! lol

    Re: All About Spoon

When you talk about rare songs, this is my favorite, I go into every show wanting to hear it knowing full well I won't. I have a love hate relationship with the song, I love the song and it hates me. I've missed it by 1 show several times. Since 2007 I've only missed three shows at Alpine, my wife and I missed Alpine 2008 due to our Honeymoon and I'm still not over that one. In 2010 I missed it by one show doing CVille N2 only. My first time hearing it wasn't until 2013 full band in Detroit. I was the at the Deer Creek 2015 show where it was played Dave solo but I was stuck outside in the ticket line and didn't hear it. I got to hear it again D&T in Detroit in 2017. So on paper it says I've heard it three times but in my head I've only heard it twice.

I'm eternal optimist and hope I catch it a couple more times but the realist in me says it will never happen.

Do we think Dave will ever write more songs about utensils?
