I have no fucking clue. I don't know about everyone else, but growing up I've always put The Academy Awards and The Grammys in the same category as the top award for their respective category. If this were true, then there is no way that The Grammys should be getting away with this. The Academy Awards is proof that real art can be separated from popular art and be given the recognition that it deserves. I don't understand why The Grammys can't too.

Exactly, it seems that "popularity" overrides "quality."

Yeah, that's going to hurt them. Although I dont know how many other noms Allison Krauss and Robert Plant had, or Herbie Hancock.

Look at these lists though. I do think its great how DMB's album has 4 other people listed. For all the other albums, it took a fucking army of people to make a 'good' album.

EDIT: and 2 of those people only touched 2 songs.

Herbie was nominated for either 3 or 4, I can't remember. He won Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Jazz album. I think a couple of his songs were nominated as well.

i enjoyed gaga on the piano rather than doing her normal nonsense, she's got a great voice when she wants to really use it.

i did not like that green day performance however. weird collaboration
