Re: *** Official Deer Creek 2018 ***

Jeff's show at the Jazz Kitchen tonight was so good. The ensemble was spectacular. The drummer really stood out and jeff was his usual impeccable self. Hour and half show left me wanting more but they made the most of the time allotted. Really glad I went.

I assume the recommendation would be sleepy bear over venue camping? Which would be lower key?

Only done DC once, last summer. Can’t soeak to venue camping cause I didn’t see much of it but I stayed at Sleepy Bear. Nice enough, some shaded areas if you get there early and take the spots. Facilities weren’t great, portopottys and cold outdoor shower. Staff was a bit over zealous when it came to “visitors” being there for a night without paying. The did sell burritos during the day, papa johns pizza one night after the show. And ice for sale all weekend.

Good mix of quiet areas and louder big groups. All depends where you were set up

My fondest memory of the DC venue camping is walking over to the bathrooms on Sunday before we left--one of which had been tipped over. Hungover girl stumbles up, shoeless, and proceeds to tell me her night-before story while standing in the middle of all the pee pee and doo doo that had spilled out of the tipped over porta potty. She was completely oblivious.

    It was gross. And hilarious.

    Green Acres. Best spot, IMO.

Any campground is better than the venue.

Dead Creek is great. It can be as low key as you want it to be.

Alex, nod to the dbt love, caught Cooley twice on his solo tour this fall. Searched for green acres, looks to be in Marion, about an hour from Ruoff is that right? Dead creek looking like the way to go. As always, thanks for the info

Nice! I saw a couple Cooley shows last month as well - both night he did here in Chicago. Really great.

I think there is another campground in Marion called Green Acres as well but there is one in Noblesville, 15098 Atlantic Rd Noblesville, IN 46061. It's about 2 miles from Deer Creek, so it's not right across the street and walkable like the venue camping or Sleepybear, but we like to drive over anyway to tailgate, and they do a shuttle as well. Lots of space to spread out and pick your spot. It's great because if you want to party all night you can but if you want a more chill vibe you can do that too.

Depending on my job situation this summer. It could be Gorge only for me since training could last through summer dates for Alpine and DC

How is the ticket situation at Deer Creek? Is it worth requesting them through the Warehouse? Can good seats be had through instants or the general public sale? How's the pit as far as size and general attitudes in there?

The pit at DC is really tiny relative to most other venues. It's a tough ticket and it gets packed. I was lucky enough to get a pit upgrade last year and I used it for DC N1. People in the pit were generally cool and respectful. I did have one jagaloon next to me who had gotten his hands on the setlist before the show and kept ruining it for everyone but eventually he left.

Pretty much anywhere in the pavilion has a pretty solid view. Lowers are harder to get, obviously. The first 10-15 rows of the middle upper section (E-F-G) really have a great view too since it's raised above the lowers and pit.

I got lucky and pulled pit N2 last year about 4 minutes after public on sale started. Just blind luck.

Had a great time. Like Alex said, very tightly packed but certainly not oppressive in my opinion. Everybody around me was very friendly and we all had one hell of a time. The energy in that tiny pit as that Two Step built up was unreal. I’ll never forget that.

For real, any Chicago-based stuff you might want - Pipeworks, Solemn Oath, etc... let me know. Myself and my 2 buddies who likely will be with me are all big craft beer dorks so we'll be stocked to the gills for the weekend without a doubt.

Any idea where you are going to be staying? If we do the RV thing we'll almost certainly camp at Green Acres which has become my favorite spot. I also have a room booked at the Embassy Suites we stayed at last year just in case.

We are planning to fly in Thursday and will be staying at the Embassy Suites. I haven't had 3F's Zombie Dust in ages so I plan to hunt some down when we get up there. Other than that, I'm open. Pipeworks is the only Chicago-based brewery I am familiar with

Zombie Dust can be tough to find even around here. If stores get it they'll usually just get a handful of 6-ers and limit it to one per customer, I'll make sure to grab one for you if I run across it closer to the show for sure.

No, I was about 2/3 of the way back and a little to the left, between Carter and Tim.

    Re: *** Official Deer Creek 2018 ***

Since there is no blossom or star lake this year, I'm looking at this as an alternative. How is the view from the lawn, sound, are there hotels nearby? Sorry for all the questions but figured I would ask the local ants

A lot of people would say it’s one of the best lawns. A lot of regulars in here do at least one night in lawn. I’m old. I don’t do lawns lol. Several hotels close by they do get full better to reserve early or camp

How are the crowds here overall? Family friendly? Drunken teenagers like Hartford? Big party crowd or laid back and chill? Thinking of trying this venue for 2019
