Parachutes is my favorite album, but I enjoy everything minus X&Y. Nothing memorable on that album.
My first thought when I read that was "they covered OK Computer?"

I'm watching some crazy shit on Palladia right now. They are playing in Tokyo. Chris Martin is insane.

that said, I really like their stuff.
Yea, pretty sure the guy does speed.

    Anyway, good band.

I love you for quoting The Simpsons in this thread.

    My thoughts on Coldplay:
They are very talented, I saw them live once and I wasn't really blown away, the show was good but it wasn't anything that I would go and tell people about for the rest of my life either. I think the first two albums are great. Ever since then I feel that I don't find myself enjoying everything as much, I really put my finger on why I don't enjoy the newer albums though, I try, but I just can't.

Shiver > Spies > Sparks in a row is amazing I love those songs.

I really like Coldplay in the studio, but they're not very good live.
    That depends, my friend.

I have seen Coldplay 4 times, and in a big venue (Alpine, United Center), I see what you mean. Could be better. However, I also was lucky enough to see them at The Metro in Chicago, front row center. Simply an incredible experience. I don't know how much that place fits, but it isn't much. I still feel like it was an accident that Coldplay booked that place..it's just so small for such a HUGE band. That show was also a few weeks prior to the release of X&Y, and nobody had really heard the material yet, no leaks were out or anything..and they opened with "Square one" and segued right into "Politik". In that small of a venue, that may have been the best opening to a show I have ever seen. Just mind blowing.

Coldplay is an amazing band. I used to be obsessed with them, but have cooled off a bit...may need to throw on some albums sometime soon and rediscover this great music. I agree with Bafugama about AROBTTH. Hands down their best album, and one of the best overall in the past number of years. Songs such as 'Daylight' and 'warning sign' are just perfect. I think Coldplay is the ultimate example of a band where the singles are nowhere near as good as the other material on the albums. I guess this is the case for most bands, but it really rings true here. Clocks, however, is an amazing song. Used to dislike it because it was overplayed, but it grows on me every time I hear it, even today several years later.

    Coldplay, ftw

I just saw them in May for my third time, they do put on a great show. They are a very talented band, Chris plays just about everything up on stage even harmonica, the rest of band switches instruments for different songs as well. They played about a 1 hour and 50 minute show, but I definitely felt like I got my money's worth, then leaving everyone at the show got a free disc that has 9 live songs on it, (leftrightleft). They definitely bring a lot of energy, for a few songs they played in the pavilion and then in the lawn. Chris is definitely a good performer.

I love Viva la Vida, it's not up there with Parachutes and AROBTTH, but it is close.

I really, really like them. I think Viva La Vida could possibly be their best album, and the Prospekts March EP and LeftRightLeftRightLeft were great as well. I didn't like X&Y all that much, but other than that, good band.

Maybe someone can point me in the right direction... I'm looking to download some live Coldplay shows... I searched etree and piratebay with no success. Anyone know where I can find live show torrents of Coldplay shows or do they not allow taping?

I'm a huge Coldplay fan. I've seen them live twice and I own all of their albums. In my opinion, they put out great music. A lot of people diss X&Y and while it's not as good as their other albums, it's not terrible like some people say. I find it to be pretty enjoyable still.

Absolutely! There's obviously going to be people who bitch about their set being the same night in and night out with little variation, but that shouldn't matter if you only go to one show a tour. They're not a band like DMB that you follow for a whole tour. Yes, I agree they should vary their sets more, but I would see a completely different show if I went to a show on this tour than I saw back on their Twisted Logic tour, so I'm fine with the lack of variation.

Not afraid to say I enjoy their music. I put them in the same category with Jack Johnson...Good, not mindblowing, or amazing in any regard.

They kind of suck live though.

Left Right/left right? Yeah, I've heard it. I shouldn't say they suck live, they're just not as good as they are on record. They're definately a studio band, IMO.

I'm a sucker for coldplay. I'm not obsessed but if the ipod's on shuffle and a coldplay tune comes on, chances are i'm sticking with it. Whoever said shiver might be their best song, i would have to agree.

    Re: Coldplay. Your thoughts?

Coldplay falls into the category of bands that people hate because they don't think for themselves and have to be cool (for the most part, yes I know people can legitimately not like them). But I don't think I heard anyone hating on Coldplay TOO much until after 40 Year Old Virgin, when one line by Paul Rudd made it cool for everyone to hate on them.

They aren't the greatest band and they aren't the worst. Parachutes and Rush are pretty amazing albums, though. Unfortunately Chris Martin got a little too big for his britches after that and started to get kind of douchey and complacent to the mainstream music vibe he had become part of.

X&Y is good pop music to me, but a step in the wrong direction of where they should have kept going. Viva at least tested out a more unique musical approach but the lyrics are kinda silly. But overall I think they are an extremely good pop-rock band. The sound is pretty unique, whether you want to admit it or not, so I go back to them often. Am I often blown away?? No, but it says something to me when I get a hankerin for specifically some Coldplay as opposed to just any of the atmospheric pop-rock bands that are out there.

IMO Coldplay is a great band...they're probably my second or third favorite band behind DMB and Radiohead, and are one of the very few "mainstream top 40" bands that I enjoy. I love all of their studio albums, but I have to agree with what a lot of people said- it's not really worth seeing their live show more than maybe two times during each year/tour. I was lucky enough to win third row tickets for their second show at the Wachovia Center last year, and it was an amazing night to say the least.

All that being said, Chris Martin is an awesome musician with a great, unique voice and nice piano skills (even if most people consider him a mediocre guitarist).
