And no, since I am on a DMB website it does not mean we automatically have similar musical tastes. I don't even really follow this band anymore. Simply still here because I enjoy the discussion and personalities in nDMBc. Wander over here every once and awhile to see how skewed the new fanbase views things. Luckily, it turns out everybody knows whats up in regards to this topic except for you and 7 others. Now its your turn to tell me that an opinion cant be wrong.
EDIT: all im saying here is how I seriously cannot see how anybody can argue BS is better. At all. One of the few topics when it comes to DMB that is clearly black and white. If you cannot understand the how much more raw emotion is in tLWS, and how that really transcends the feel and purpose of the song, then I just feel bad for you.

Ok, I gotta say something now. I have been a fan since 1994, and I have problems with the LWS version of Captain. I do enjoy the BS version more, and one big reason is the lyrics.
Here are my problems with the LWS version of Captain:
- I really don't like that how slow it became from how the earlier Crazys were. I prefer the more rhythmic percussive sounding version of Crazy, which is more signature to Dave's style than that slow strummed version of Captain
- I think it's musical atmosphere (like other LWS songs) is way too open, and feels empty in areas. However, this could all just be because it was never a mastered version.
- Then the lyrics are a problem. I really do not like the lyrics because of how completely depressing and almost how whining it is. The album was already full of just dark depressing "I want to kill myself" feeling songs, and Captain is the one that I felt shouldn't have been lumped into them. Then, the main recurring line, "Cause I am the captain of this ship, wanting eyes and kissing lips," doesn't seem to really fit with the rest of the song. There is almost no more feeling of Love or Hope which those repeating lines imply. These lyrics also just don't reach me unlike the other dark songs on there (BEF, Grace Is Gone, Grey Street). It's more just complaining about the situation (in my interpritation). I think Dave made a mistake in not taking the lyrical ideas from his improvised Crazy's (which were more about overcoming things and exploring, instead of just everything is fucked so let me die).
Now, I agree that the Busted Stuff version is not the best recording of the song. However, I really prefer the guitar progression on the song, since it went back to how it was played as Crazy, which was more percussive, and not so slow and lagging. Also, yes it's just about love and sex now, but at least I can smile after listening to it.
I have always felt this way about Captain since I first heard it in 2001. I am not from some new fanbase like you said. I have been a fan since 1994 with UTTAD. My favorites are the Dreaming Tree, Pig, Spoon, Warehouse, #34, Lie In Our Graves, Say Goodbye, and JTR.
I think you are the one with the problem if you can accept that someone can dislike something that you like. Not everyone can agree, and there is no absolute black and white situation. There is always going to be some grey area. Now I respect your opinion on Captain, but if you can't accept that people can disagree with you . . . then I feel sad for you.
