Would love to see DMB cover some Crystal Garden.
“Wake the Funk Up” would make the crowd go crazy.

What a great first leg of the tour! Time to rest up for a few weeks then hit WPB and The Gorge wide open! Can’t wait to see what this leg of the tour will bring, but I guarantee you it’s going to be a fun time. So thankful for this band and what they bring at every stop!

Listened to Friday's show again, that R&R hit so damn hard.

I'd also still like to think the Dave Speak after Bayou was a bit of a foreshadow to YNK later that night. Really cool if so.

Typical and Seek Up are almost identical guitar riffs.

Drive In Drive Out and The Stone as well.

Gorge & SPAC are the exceptions, but everywhere it’s shown up has been somewhere it has never been played before or hasn’t been in a significant/decent number of years. Yet there’s the illusion that he plays it all the time at every stop.

Last night was the first one at Virginia Beach since 2008.

I’m not denying that it’s been in heavy play since 2018, just an observation on the “how” that heavy play has been.
7 out of 17 shows for me (sledge) from 2018-present. But you are correct that the venue plays are not as repetitive as it “feels” if that’s the word?

Only venue to repeat was PNC Holmdel (2021 & 2022) but from Charlottesville to SPAC, Tampa to MSG, I’m a sledgehammer magnet.

I’m not surprised to hear what someone posted about Dave looking at Venue, tour and other sets/stats when writing a setlist. There is some “fairness” to it (unless you’ve never been to SPAC, Gorge, C’ville, or Mexico then you may feel like he plays favs). One example though is Rye Whiskey was in 1 night’s encore every 2-nite stand so far up until SPAC. But the observant one will recall he opened n1 in 2021 with Rye, and let’s be honest, I doubt anyone was complaining about that “snub” with either encore at SPAC this year.

Everyone’s got songs they can’t seem to miss and can’t seem to hear. Aside from CMAC, I’ve heard Nancies once in 20+ shows from 2017-present. 4 band shows this year, 5 total inc CMAC and I heard like all of my top 10 at least once except for Pig, but w/o pulling stats I think it only has 3 maybe 4 max plays so far.

What does torture me is I was 1 hour from West Palm when ticketmaster called to tell me the bad news. Have a major schedule conflict on the make-up dates and I have this looming FOMO that one of those nights will be top 1-2 shows of 2022. He opened Jones Beach with Last Stop the “rain date” of a weather shortened show in ‘19, and that was a kind of bonus for a crap luck night before. Not saying he does or should feel bad about COVID, but I envision a similar evening of “you guys earned its!!” for WPB in few weeks… going back to the fairness of setlists he won’t forget the unintentional let down that again while obviously not his fault, had more to do with him than the weather.

And WPB usually already has a top 5-6 show one of two nights anyway….so jealous of everyone going

    Facts about can’t stop.

Seek Up is a jinx for me. Everytime I hear it early in a set I change my expectations immediately. I was on a train literally going backwards (not a subway or which way my seat faced wisenhiemers, train actually going west on an eastbound track due to a mechanical issue ahead of us) getting to MSG n1 in 2018, and by some miracle I actually was in the door just as Seek Up opened the show and I remember thinking I had an extra 22 minutes to get to my seat after all.

    Really liked your post!

I think WPB is going to be benefit just from the sheer fact that its later now, and the song catalog has opened up a lot more here by the end of August than it would have been at the end of May. But in the same regard, there are some songs that might've been more "on his mind" back then like Dreaming Tree/Shotgun/Break Free/Break For it could possibly be forgotten or not as likely now.

For WPB, they are around where the Colorado 2 nighter was typically falling before the 2021 tour, which looks like really solid weekends with some big gems in this current era. Couple up that WPB is a make-up for Covid and then 2 weeks later the Gorge will (hopefully) have the band intact for the first time since 2019...we could see some killer weekends.

But, at the end of the day, as long as he's got some nice balance and the shows look/feel different enough from the previous year's, he's doing good with writing sets and people should be happy.

Great post. I also think we would have gotten a Dreaming Tree (played the 2 shows before it) and the Break songs. All 3 of those may be out now. But what's for sure is he knows the shows were rescheduled and will make it up to us with something cool - there will be at least a few rarer songs played through the weekend whether it's Pay for What You Get or something else. Let's see how it goes. WPB is always a blast.

I wouldn't be surprised it there's a solid debut each night either. Looking forward to set watching them.

I'm feeling JTR's tour debut in WPB this weekend. Thunderstorms inevitable this time of year and it hasn't been played in WPB since '06. I was lucky enough to be at the "improv JTR" show in Dallas a few years ago - a moment I'll certainly never forget - and I wouldn't mind experiencing it again. Opener!?

I said the same thing to my wife last night. Those early shows seemed to have the same 30 songs fighting for the 21/22 slots. Hopefully with them being off for 4 weeks, they practiced a few new ones too. Thankfully I got the Breaks in Hartford.
