Re: Summer Tour Warm Up Videos

That Raven performance is incredible. You can hear how much better they sounded in 2021 than in previous years.

Jeff and Buddy and Dave specifically sound amazing. The guitar is so crisp in the mix.

I guess you gotta enjoy the organ and a slow-paced Raven to believe it's "incredible" because I thought it was one of my personal least favorite and lack-luster Raven performances I've listened to in a while. The sound of the guitar and the mix in general was great, but the organ really killed the enjoyment level for me.
    To each their own though.

I love that Raven is played at the 2000 pace these days

yes, to each their own while i love rock music, i've been worn out on the DMB "play as fast and loud and in your face as we can for the energeezz wall of sound" style for years now. so hearing something that is slower and breathes so you can appreciate the layers and nuances is really nice.

I dig the slow pace, but the organ is awful to me. I’m completely with you

2015 Ravens were great. This is not

Actually, now that you mention nuances, I think the reason I don't like it as much as others is less about the pace and more about the nuances I DON'T hear which I've heard in past versions.

It's fine that Carter is playing at a slower pace but I miss hearing him throw in a bunch of cool fills in between beats... beats within the beats if you understand what I'm trying to say.

I also miss the contrast and unique sound which the violin brought. And subbing the sax and violin for organ anywhere in a song is a direct downgrade for me. Like the intro, in past versions I completely enjoyed the intros but in this version I just can't wait to get past it for the actual rest of the song to begin.

IBYU has the warm-up thing on it, but that's LT 59. I'm wondering if they'll do a more recent Tampa one too?

They chose Stand Up for Jacksonville

Warehouse would've been a good pick. But I'm guessing they're saving that for the SPAC version from last year.

You sure they won't go with the Shake Me weekend closer that had everyone talking?

I agree, the song is a shadow of its former self; the soul is missing since Dave got lazy with the guitar part.

Buddy doing the fake violin on this one was making my ears bleed.

Absolutely! I've only had 1 release from one of my shows (Typical, CLT '15) and that was exciting.

Also curious, and hoping, that they're saving Grey Street from Raleigh '21.

I don't like it on this, but I like it on Pig. I don't think Boyd ever sounded good on Pig after '06.

If it was me, I would bail on the violin patches and when he’s covering those types of parts, either go with classic piano sound OR Hammond organ. Case in point, his work on tripping billies sounded better and was more enjoyable when he just went Hammond organ on it. For stone and pig, I would just go classic piano sound and I think it would be fine. For whatever reason, he keeps adding the violin patches - I mean band must approve it or it would stop.

Second this. Genuinely disliking the fiddle patches. Just play the song in a different way!
