I hate that this is my home venue and usually the only show I get to see every year. My gameplan- get there early, move some barrels and get a parking spot on the pavement, sit inside, ignore the drunks, metal bleachers, and awful sound, focus on the music and enjoy the show, try to avoid puke piles on the way back to the car, get out as fast as I can.

Having these Bama Works seats last year made Darien pretty great for me.

But seeing this guy on the way out, well that pretty much sums it all up

I am pissed I wasn't into his music when I loved so close to SPAC---and for two nights so often, so many good set lists!!!! DAMN!!!

And I grew up in Buffalo (now live in Olean) so the Buffalonian comment hurts, then again you said it was a joke so that's OK. And at least I don't live in that ghetto named Syracuse
Agreed dude. I've lived in both, and Buffalo is 1000 times better than the 'cuse.

Has anyone here traveled to Toronto for a show? How does it compare? Is it worth the drive? I'm thinking of trying to head across the border this summer if it works with my schedule.

I haven't gone to an outdoor show there yet but i did go to Toronto for this past (winter) tour at Air Canada Centre...crowd was very lame, quiet, not into it at all. I couldn't figure out if this was a normal Canadian type of crowd or just an off night for the 18,000 there that night. Hanging out in the area before the show the crowd was very mellow, almost business-like, as if they were going to the opera, so I guess their lack of response to Dave was to be expected.

I was at the show in Toronto this past winter, crowd was brutal, traffic was brutal. I'd rather stay in the states.

Indoor Toronto shows tend to be more laid back than outdoor shows. As other have said, the ACC was pretty quiet but it was a great show. Much of it depends on what you're looking for in a show. There's usually less drunks and all that nonsense here. It's the 5th largest city in NA, so yeah, traffic sucks. On the other hand, there's much more to do here than at Darien(but not much tailgating) From Rochester, if you were planning on spending the night then I might recommend Starlake. If you're heading home the same night, then Toronto is about as far away as you're going to want to go. If you've never been to Toronto then I would recommend it just for that alone. But leave your gun behind.

This sounds so nice compared to Darien.

I'm thinking if the date worked out it would be a nice little two day trip. It's been years since I've visited, but we always enjoy spending time in the city.

I'm looking to Darien this year as it is about the only venue in the northeast I haven't been to yet. What's the deal with places to stay - is the party on site camping at the Darien Lake Theme Park? Or off site somewhere? Help me out!! I wanna book something ASAP.

I looked into camping or the lodge onsite, but the only way to reserve anything is to book two nights (that's what they do on concert nights). So, cheapest rate is around $200 for a campsite...up to 700$ for a cabin. kinda sucks. Not sure what else is around. It is a rather rural area so probably limited...

Just learned some friends in PA are gonna do this show, I could potentially add it to my tour, but it'd be tough to swing work-wise and is pretty far out of my way coming from central VA for a one nighter...sounds like this place is a shithole...is it even worth my effort to come here??

I never miss Darien. That is only because it is less than an hour from me. I feel you could find a better one nighter to go to that would be closer. But Dave and the boys always put on a good show even if the venue is not up to par.

While the venue is a shithole, the sets there are usually top notch. I hate going there but since the venue is so close its the show I will always hit. What other venue can boast a power outage during a DMB concert CMAC is a beautiful venue but run horribly. Its too small to handle big shows, great for small ones around 6 or 7k.

Agree with this whole post. Great setlists - I'd put 2003 Darien setlist up against any other one I've seen in the past 10 years.

That said, the venue and lawn crowd generally do suck. Make sure you're under the tent and all will be good. (and dry)

Only been to Darien twice, both times under the tent and dry (as opposed to under the table and dreaming.. . A fun crowd and great shows...and I fly in from CA! Always a good good time.

i think just that you cant park on someones property and walk over. you have to park in the darien lots, whether it be paved or grass. someone got hit at a show last year, so they changed the rules.

unless something else has changed, that i dont know about..
