Re: Anyone else think these setlists are weak

I'm hoping the setlists continue to be a mix like what we've seen so far. I don't think I'm going to any shows this year, just Periscoping, but I'm enjoying seeing the variety. It's also really nice to see the band enjoying themselves.

I did give Bayou and Stand Up at Dallas (and Crush for what I thought was an encore closer, until I saw another guitar getting tuned up in the wings and knew we’d get a third song) an eye roll when I realized what they were. But, man, I was jamming by the time they got to the end of them. The band has an energy on the stage that I haven’t seen in a long time. Smiles all around.

Re: Anyone else think these setlists are weak

I'm very happy with the sets after these 3 shows. But I'm also interested to see what the sets look like following the June 8th album release. I highly doubt its going to be 3 songs a night. I'd wager it bumps up to 6-8. What they surround that 6-8 will be important though. Will they surround those with Hello Again, Recently, DIDO, Stand Up, Typical, What You Are type stuff...or will it be stuff we've seen every summer all the time like Crush, DDTW, #41, WWYS, OSW, Grey St, Nancies, Why I Am?

I'm one of those "I dig variety whatever it is they decide it to be" people. I get some don't like that I'm looking at heralded classics like DDTW or Crush in a negative light...but, would this be an exciting album tour show for most of you? And this surrounds album tunes with pretty much all +1 songs (generally speaking, there may be varying degrees of people with a few). Honest question here, cuz I'm curious.

Exciting? No (well, unless I was there in person, because every show is exciting to me when I'm seeing my favorite band ever in-person )

    Solid? Yes.

Re: Anyone else think these setlists are weak

2018 Summer's first two night's set lists were watered down. I'm glad someone finally said it.
The 5/16 Sound Check was the first indicator of, "huh"? There have been small handfuls hard hitting rock show, but ALWAYS limited to just a 2-3 songs until lolled back to feet-stayed-on-the-ground music shows, like wine and cheese, lawn blanket, family night out entertainment.
The first couple nights sets from EVERY tour have Always, yielded a healthy dose of songs from the band's best.

They're rested-up with new ideas from their first sound checks, on things they'd like to try out this tour, with old songs and arraignment ideas that may have initiated from a bit of "casual" studio time. Check out dmb's first nights from previous tours:

    05.11.2016 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...154&where=2016
    3rd night http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...154&where=2016

    05.13.2015 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...128&where=2015
    2nd night http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...128&where=2015 =

    05.16.2014 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...125&where=2014

    05.17.2013 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...d=120&where=20

    05.18.2012 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...117&where=2012

    Caravan / touring break

    Summer tour
    05.28.2010 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...110&where=2010
tour note: Stefan's moratorium song requests; gobs of returns and one-offs.

    Fall tour
    11.02.2010 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...112&where=2010

    04.14.2009 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...103&where=2009

    05.30.2008 http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...=98&where=2008

Last Tuesday night's setlist showed some ambition http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...156&where=2018
But every time they start their assault into arena rock band territory with Louisiana Bayou (really?? okay!), Rooftop, or Drive In Drive Out we then get blindsided with Come Tomorrow (5/22), Lying in the Hands of God, (5/22) and Crash into Me (5/22), in that order.

These aren't arena rock show setlists. These shows are like watching a movie at a Brew & View's open bar movie house screenings where it's not exactly a traditional cinema experience or evening night out at the tavern with friends.

OP complains about setlists after the band loses an original member, gains a new one, and still liberates songs. What a fuckin boob.

I've been fine with the setlists thus far. I think it's interesting they haven't played Can't Stop or Idea of You...wonder when those will pop up.

I'd still enjoy these setlists. But there's no doubt most of us would rather have a BTCS heavy setlists rather than Stand Up liberations. Its an exciting new sound, Buddy sounds great, but there's no way the keys can bring the kind of energy Boyd brought. Not even close. Even the Boyd hasn't been nearly the same Boyd we all loved.

It's fun right now, but I guess I can't get excited if the whole tour is like this. DMBs best catalogue is violin heavy, still wish they had another violinist! They're early in the tour, so I remain optimistic!

don't forget it's also an album year and they're still only playing 3 songs a night from it, which is a lot less than I was expecting

    Yeah exactly

Look at the Hollywood Bowl 2012 setlist - pretty sure they played 8 AFTW songs??

I expect to hear 8 songs from it at Bristow. We'll probably get Jimi Thing too.

There is no telling what you'll get in Bristow, just that it probably won't be very good. After 2012 I vowed to never return there for a DMB show lol BUT....nothing would make me happier than them never playing Jimi Thing again

It's the local venue, and yes 2012 was a bad show. Honestly I like Jimi Thing but it has been overplayed, just like DDTW. As the "home" venue we get some pretty meh shows.

I'm just expecting a lot of songs off the album since it gets released the day before.

Ah see I drove almost 6 hours to get to Bristow in 2012...perhaps thats why that show made me a little bitter. Honestly it wasn't "terrible" but it's the only show I've ever left thinking "I really wish I hadn't of spent money to do this"

I just feel sorry for you (someone who blames an entire band for one person's actions).

And I respect your opinion on the band, along with the cost of their shows. Please do continue to post on the Ants forum about how you won't be attending --->

You have one clear motive for still being here.

Bring back Last Stop. They bring back shit Stand Up songs but ignore some of their best work. I'm already wondering if my one show this summer is too much...

I'm not even sure the 65 i'm paying is worth it.

I paid $20 to see Primus this upcoming wednesday and I have a feeling that will be a far superior show. At least Phish tour is on the horizon.

I dont want that bitter post to come off as sounding too hateful. I am looking forward to seeing this band again. They were very influential on my formative years as a musician and I think Dave and Carter especially are musical treasures. I can just only take so much sub-par output from a setlist perspective. We've seen them do so much better. I'll enjoy the show I see and don't have very high expectations.

I just think back to 10 years ago at SPAC seeing LeRoi crush a Dreaming Tree solo and the full band kicking into #40 and get misty eyed thinking of what could have been. Here's to hoping for a great tour.

How could you possibly find something to complain about? The band is the hottest itís been in years.
