haha do you honestly think that after all of these years, Dave cares about what the fans thinks he plays? Or how much they pay? Fans should know what they're signing up for, and if they don't like it then it's their own fault for spending the money. He can hang up the towel at any moment and be fine. And he has never cared for anyone to tell him what he should or shouldn't play, so why start now?

We also have a tendency here at Ants to think that "the fans" are us. I tend to think than an overwhelming majority of the fans at these shows don't share any of our concerns and just have a great time. Read the comments during a periscope, someone last night heard Rooftop and said "Is this new?" Most people aren't watching shows with the DMBAlmanac Liberation List in their hands.

If Dave has a blast playing Stand Up, and sees the crowd having a blast he's going to keep playing it. I don't think they're going to notice the Ant in the crowd scoffing at the song selection and crossing their arms.

Ha! He did! He loves his fans and is super devoted, which has absolutely nothing to do with the setlist!

Oh, believe me no one hates Stand Up more than I do. Ive made countless setlists that I think could equate to the perfect show. But I donít sit here with my jaw dropped because Dave isnít fulfilling the requests of hardcore ants. Listen to any Floodzone Ď92 show or even Ď97 Utica. Even early on, itís laughable to him that people think because they shout blue water, heís going to just change his entire practice. This isnít Millerís. Heís beyond playing what the people want. He knows he has a voice and no ant will change his ways. And sure, itíd be different if he wasnít filling arenas.

Honestly. Where do you think this band would be if Dave actually listened to fan requests?

Actually, the more I think about it, I go to shows with a group of 20+ every year and I'm the only one who carries these concerns. Even my friends and family who have been to 20-30 shows always leave happy and don't much care about the setlists.

A little bit of ignorance can be bliss.

Haha that's funny you say that. I recently came across a video of John Mayer basically explaining his process with this kind of thing.

    https://youtu.be/1Q9sv9OkQBk?t=80

I should mention that I am by NO means a John Mayer fan. However, I respect him as a talent and DO think he is knowledgeable in the industry. And I would never compare him to Dave, but I think there's an aspect of experience playing live that does overlap in some ways. I really appreciate that he is able to come forward in an intellectual way & explain his thoughts on playing live.

And didn't Dave say in an interview a few years ago basically saying "Why would I play something just because someone is holding up a sign?" I have to find it.

Don't know why are you still getting shitty beer. That's the real crime here. Haven't been to a venue in recent memory that didn't at least have one good beer.

Stand Up sounded great. Did you listen to the tapes? I donít care if you think itís a bad song, because it is, but they made it sound magical live, especially with that outro.

no one will get this but it's like if Primus brought back Electric Uncle Sam and closed sets with it

song blows but at least it's not jerry > mud every other night

i honestly don't care if they (dmb) bring back bad songs and fool around with them at this point

Speaking of Stand Up songs I'm listening to Everybody Wake Up from 2012 and I would love to see that come back. For the outro alone.

Stand up is bad music. Everyday is fine, the entire album is fine. Stand Up is bad music making.

The only songs from Stand Up that are even worthy of being considered for rotation are Dreamgirl, American Baby, Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd, & Old Dirt Hill.

Hello Again is not a good song. Stop telling me it is. Out Of My Hands is shit. And everything else is far below the standard of DMB tunes that are available to be played.

This includes tunes like #27, Joyride, Shotgun, & Idea Of You.

Give me Fool To Think over any Stand Up song.

You Might Die Trying is bull shit.

it's only 3 shows in so i won't jump to an extreme yet

i know they are still meshing with buddy and lack of violin

but man, i have a feeling that they're going to shit the bed again, i think, in terms of failing to take chances....again

that's the problem with this band. they rarely, if ever, take chances. for as much as saying boyd was holding them back, it's actually dave holding them back. they can actually have a chance at a spark of inspiration right now with having a keys player. but, i have a feeling, this band will flatline shortly this year. perfect example is samurai cop...song goes nowhere - it's just a flatline

they are one of the most successful touring bands of all time, but they'll always be a tier below...the last 10 years have cemented their legacy. june 2008 was the last time this band was showing creativity..what an enjoyable month full of promise

I agree with most of your points. Seems like every tour starts off with a few liberations and then goes back into the same pattern of song the rest of the tour. This tour will do the same, Dave still writes kinda shitty sets, I mean closing sets with fucking stand up is an asshole move. With everything going on with the Boyd shit, plus the weak new songs and likely poor studio album, I sold all my tickets for the summer and will see other bands now. Wake me up when Dave and Tim go on tour again, or Dave solo, I think I'm done with the full band.

Great point to bring up what it costs to see this band.

I get really annoyed whenever someone says "the band doesn't OWE you anything.". Ummmm, actually according to economics, they OWE me $100 worth of entertainment if i buy a ticket to see their performance.

If their tickets were $25 bucks for lawns, then whatever. I wouldn't care... it would be a nice evening outside and if I heard a few tunes I like, than good enough.

But their tickets are NOT CHEAP. There's plenty of bands I can see this summer for $25. With what DMB charges, I expect to receive that amount of entertainment value. It's just not worth the cost anymore to sit through the "Dave plays what he wants" songs and hearing the same songs in the same slots. It was REALLY stale in 2016....Alpine N2 2016 wasn't just a bad DMB show... it was a BAD CONCERT in general

I am very irritated/angry with the band and especially management in 2018. For a whole plethora if reasons (some more obvious than others). With that, i will admit the actual music sounds fresh.

The sets are still "meh". Yeah, there's LOTS of classics in those sets. But their all classics i've seen many times before. Coupled with the stuff their busting out being off thier worst album... yeah. Still not worth $100

The only reason the Stand Up songs arn't being hated on is because it's something different. Give it a month... when they're still in as heavy rotation as they are now, people will remember why we hated these songs in the first place back a decade ago.

Re: Anyone else think these setlists are weak

Give they typically play ~7 new songs a night in album release years, I think these have been great.

Everyone and their mother can tell how irritated you are. You're literally the guy with his arms crossed in the pavilion, trying to talk to the guy next to you and saying, well, according to economics, this show better be worth $100 or I want my money back!

No one wants to hear about your money problems. Go have fun at those $25 shows you were talking about and don't attend another show if you can't afford it or no longer care for the band.

Yes, we all long for '90's Dave. But get a grip.
