I agree 100%. The Mercy,Gaucho,Sweet run fits perfectly together. This album is a great to listen to straight through, haven't felt that way since BTCS.

My question is to people that bitch about the lyrics, what were you expecting? It's been, what..10 years since the last album with generally agreed upon good lyrics. Granted there have been few select songs on each album since then that are good, there have been 3, I repeat 3 albums since that album, that have lacked the lyrics of the Lillywhite Sessions. Why do people go into this album even expecting lyrical genius? It's almost just stupid, at this point. I went into this album hoping to hear a well produced album, that brought out the best in each musician, I think AFTW did exactly that. It just gets tiresome to hear people bitch about lyrics still, it's been a decade! Move on already. It would be like a Michael Jordan fan still bitching he can't dunk from the free throw line anymore. Well no shit sherlock, he hasn't done it in a decade, why would it change now?

I'm expecting Dave to put the same effort he puts in to all the other aspect of his music (riffs, rhythms, melody). IMO, outside of a handful of lines, his writing's gotten sloppy. As others have mentioned he heavily relies on finishing his lines with "me", "you" and "baby". I would gladly place the blame on age if he weren't able to write well on his other recent outings. Shotgun, Idea of You, Beach Ball, Kill the King, Little Red Bird, Squirm. Some of these don't have "set" lyrics but that doesn't detract from the creativity of the ones provided. Also I realize some don't like the other musical aspects of these songs but this is purely my discussion on their lyrical stability. Dave can do better. That's why I expect it

Okay. I've listened this album at least once per day. It's still a solid album. It was very liberating when I first heard it, but since then it only takes me to dark places because love in mentioned in about 100% of the songs (ok I exaggerate there, but still). So, I don't know how pumped I'll be to listen to it in the future...

I think this album is very good..very commercial american rock...
Steve is a great producer. He manages to mix all band members.
Particularly Boyd and Tim finally found right place in mix, but I'm very disappointed for sax parts..I miss Leroi...

This is nothing new. His writing's been sloppy for a long time.

People on here bitch so much about Dave's lyrics it's getting a little old. While I am not at all saying I disagree with the quality of the lyrics on the album, I also don't care nearly as much as a lot of other people here. I write songs myself and can appreciate the difficulty in writing lyrics. I assume most of the people on here that complain about them have never written a song before. I don't mean that as an insult in any way but there is a lack of understanding that goes along with it. Dave's songwriting does not lend itself to poetic writing. His whacky rhythms make it EXTREMELY difficult to write good lyrics and have them work within the rhythm and melody of a song. The choruses in Gaucho and Rooftop are classic examples of that...but people don't get it and just bitch about the lyrics. If you want Dave to write great lyrics he would probably have to start writing simpler songs with simple chords and then people would start bitching about the music.

    amen brotha

maybe dmb should pull a nickleback and just write new lyrics and melodies over old songs, then people couldn't complain right?

At first listen (or few listens) I was liking the album, but still needed the time to digest. IDK what people are saying with Dave's lyrics, I think he has some excellent messages in these songs. Glad to see him get back to the Carpe Diem songs. This album has been growing and growing on me. I'm really digging it now.

I'm even more excited to head the CD now. The Siruis/XM stream has added things in the broadcast. off the top of my head, Dave's guitar rings with a little more reverb in Drunken soldier in his one strum chords.

also "Don't let any fool make you something you're not"

also Carter's voice is audible in the beginning of the track. so it's a bit different. sounds clearer too.

I feel really sorry for you.

This is a great album and it will sound so much more unique since it won't be streaming. It'll be much more clear when you put it on a good stereo or headphones. It's like a totally different album. Hope you enjoy

Sorry my man, Sirius XM stream is not the final product, the iTunes stream is the audio that will be on the CD. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Very sorry to throw out such a stupid question, but I can't figure out how to stream the album on iTunes, even after pre-ordering it.

Can anyone help? I suddenly feel like an old confused person who needs someone to help them across the street.

Thanks in advance to any good Samaritan.

    Snow Outside is AWESOME.
    Mercy is beautiful.
Rooftop & The Riff are really cool.
Drunken Soldier is interesting. Love the "breakdown" with about 3:45 left in the song. Could listen to that part for about an hour or so. It kind of soothes my soul.
The rest is, IMHO, just there.

Really love that Snow Outside tune though.

Not today, though. Most of us stayed up late refreshing iTunes and are way too tired and frustrated for that sort of shit right now.

Wow, just backread when the album finally streamed - I can't wait for Ants to be Christmas Morning joyful again. I'm still smiling from the backread, can't wait for that initial listen to the new album. You can't beat that feeling!
