Re: New York Yankees

I can't get pissed at the people that have been Yankee fans their entire life. But I can get mad at the fair weather fans who help sell out Comerica Park when the Yankees are in town.

But what about a Yankees fan that'll travel from NY to Detroit to see them in Comerica?

I understand what you're saying, I don't like "fans" who like the team because it's the cool thing to do.

My dad showed me the bib I used to wear as a baby. The sicko kept it all these years. It says "I'm a Yankees Superkid" on it.

Yeah, I didn't have much of a choice in choosing a team to root for.

I'm mostly talking about the locals that come to the game and cheer for the Yankees just because they're good.

Oh, on July 16, I will be booing Jeter out of Detroit.

I look forward to that headline.

Classy guy, great teammate, clutch player, Mr. November.

He's 30 years old, captain of the most successful team in baseball history, makes a ton of money, yet he still calls his manager "Mr. Torre"

If you had the chance to have him on the Tigers, would you take it?

It was great. There seemed to be quite a lot of Boston fans so that made it even more fun.

Funniest moment of the night was when Cheney got booed and a Boston fan like 2 rows back was calling all New Yorkers un-american

It was hilarious. My seats are behind the visitor's dugout and the guy came running out with all those gloves...and Ortiz looked super pissed haha

And what about Heredia...I could barely watch. He impressed me.

Yep, he's leading the majors. I'm probably going to the July 18th game against the Yankees, but it's a Sunday so he'll probably sit out.

    Honestly, I wouldn't. I don't think he can carry a team.

Yesterday on Baseball Tonight, they were picking their all-star team, and Ravech picked Jeter over Guillen. He said it was because Jeter raised his average from .181 to .270 and because he came out of the dugout last night, pumping his fist.

Jeter is the classic example of being in the right place at the right time. It's easy to be like him when you've never lost in your professional career.

    I disagree (naturally).

Does Jeter win because he's "in the right place at the right time" like you say, or does he win because he makes his team better?

The Yankees lost to the Mariners in 95, the year before Jeter became a full time player. His very first year, they won it all. You don't think he had anything to do with that? You don't think he's been an integral part of all the Yankees championship teams from 96 to 2000? You honestly think that he was just in the right place at the right time?

    We're not that bad.

The problem I have is that people have this stereotype of the Yankees and Yankees fans as "corporate America" You go to Yankee Stadium, you'll be hard pressed to find a nuttier, more dedicated, more educated group of fans.
