Are you talking about hearing the sound in the pit from their monitors? Maybe they’ve drastically updated speaker technology but pit is horrible for hearing the sound.

In general, you are right. Spac is a tough venue for the sound guy (friend of some of ours). The natural acoustics of the venue do not play nice with the speakers. However I will say I do enjoy the unique (echo-y) sound of
Spac. Go listen to Rye Whiskey. Amazing performance and the sound is super enjoyable on it.

I kind of here you on the overpowering sound. N1 in 3T (with some pretty spectacular neighors if i may add) was a bit much, however on N2 in 6P (i was happy groped by a married man all night) the sound seemed a bit clearer - funny how you'd expect center pavillion to have much better sound considering you're right in front of the sound board.

As far as the lawn - hard to compare or make a conclusion since the balcony, steepness in the lawn, and the 20k packed sardines standing on such lawn, probably cause a lot more of a noise differences than your typical amphitheater setup - just my $0.02. In my experience (including SPAC) the sound quality in any pit is subpar since everything is kinda in your face, no pun intended.

WOW...I am a long time fan, Riverbend is my closest venue of choice, but I couldn't help but comment on the shit you guys got at SPAC this year! I am just finishing night 2, they are playing all kinds of shit, and jamming the fuck out of it too!! So many deep cuts! I am about to start it all over, hopefully we get a great show at Riverbend! Cheers!

I was at the back of the balcony on N2 and everything sounded amazing, I'd imagine different sections sound different but where I was it was great. I didn't see the screens on the lawn but it sounds like you have a point there.


As for the new building on the lawn I guess it's good to have overpriced drink and food options in that location but it creates one hell of a traffic pattern, everything between the people getting to and from their seats to people in line for the concessions is kind of one big cluster

I think it's amazing what we consider "deep cuts" at this point.

The shows were great, don't get me wrong, but I don't really consider anything they played over the weekend to be particularly "deep cut" worthy.
