I agree with everything you said. However, CASE NUMBERS seem to be the number that drives everything. If case numbers go back up, things will tighten up and stop again. It won’t matter if most of those cases are in asymptomatic young people. It won’t matter if hospitalizations and death numbers remain low. Those who call the shots will look at those case numbers, and variant fear porn, and say “NOPE!”

What if there was an announcement for D&T in Mexico 2022 before the band's summer tour announcement. They usually are adjacent to Dead & Co. / Phish shows in Cancun.

I bought tix for the Delray Beach, FL show. You buy a "table" for one price and can sit 4 people. and they'll bring food/drink to you.

No matter how you feel about Texas Rangers capacity, IMO it will lead to proof one way or the other on what crowds can do/not do

I saw in my local newspaper (Minnesota) yesterday that covid cases were again spiking...

A small litmus test, I know, but we also JUST reopened here. If thats gonna be the result, I cant see any shows actually coming to fruition in 2021.

Sorry, call me a pessimisit. I call it being a realist. Id rather assume there will be no music and be just sad about it instead of pinning my hopes and dreams on life returning to "normal" any time soon and being shattered when it doesnt actually happen.

I see much future grief counseling for alot of folks contributing to this thread.

Yeah, just google “Michigan Covid” for a taste of where you’ll be in a few weeks. There’s so much Covid spreading amongst the 30-50 set right now in Detroit, that even though my wife and I are both fully vaccinated, we want nothing to do with any social events. And I’m as ready to be done with this as anyone. My wife works at a hospital and Covid admissions are way up again (although many fewer icu/vent patients).

My personal prediction for DMB right now is that the whole current 2021 tour is pushed to 2022, and a new 2021 Fall Tour is announced in the interim.

Te fact that the big Dead & Company announcement is probably for shows in January 2022, should be a wake up call for those who expect full capacity shows in September 2021.

I’m not sure why everybody assumes September is the magic date. There is simply no reason to believe that, and every reason to believe it won’t happen. It’s not even a pessimistic viewpoint, it just is what it is. Not sure why Bonnaroo even bothered announcing a lineup, it’s just going to lead to a bunch of disappointed people who will spend a lot of money on tickets and other accommodations... maybe that’s the point.

I could be wrong, but I simply assess the situation and feel pretty strongly that I will be right.

The fact that Dead & CO. is announcing shows in mexico 4 months after Setpember 2021 should be a wakeup call that other shows won't happen?

Do you think Bonnaroo, Firefly, The City of Chicago, The City of LA, etc. etc. hasn't assessed the situation a little deeper than you have? Possibly?

I’m sure they have. But they also need to get some fresh dollars coming in, even if they have to push the shows back. Maybe I’m wrong, I hope I am. But it’s a long road from allowing full capacity indoor dining (which is still not allowed in many places) and allowing 100,000 people to pack into a field together.

    Re: 2021 Tour Rumors/Status

I wouldn't even put the chance of Dead & Co. or Dave & Tim shows in Mexico next January, at 100%. Probably more like 70%.

First, because we're not talking about shows in America, and I venture to guess that there is not a huge Mexico fanbase, so almost 100% of attendees will be traveling from the U.S., down to a country with much less vaccination and control of the virus. I wonder if a "Vaccine Passport" process might fly for those purchasing tickets.

The other reason is of course that we don't know for certain where we'll be come January 2022. I'd say the chances are actually fairly positive, were we talking about shows in America.

Despite what some may think, I'm not being pessimistic because I'm rooting to delay seeing DMB or countless other acts. I still believe the best shot at this point would be outdoor shows in November/December. I realize that sounds crazy, but it may end up coming to pass that more widespread clearance is given for large capacity OUTDOOR events to take place by year's end. And yeah....that's fine with me here in CA, where it's more viable than other parts of the country.

How about instead of Mexico D&T shows, they did Hawaii? Now that would be kick ass, and I'd probably be tempted to attend, despite the likely high cost.

Right, and that SHOULD be the end of it.

But case numbers seem to be the only numbers that actually matter to the powers that be, and they are going to go way up.

Yes; the one thing i keep remembering in relation to large concerts is: if conditions in the near future were to be basically too deteriorated to have them, they would not be good experiences for many people anyway, and it will be worth waiting until an actually safe time period. It is like a road with too much running water on it, once it is dry enough then it can safely be traversed, but until then, it's a river!

it will seem like a lot less time though than it might be!

I don't see them cancelling their September shows until early mid-summer. They will wait and see how things are in 2-3 months.

Whatever happens, my preference would be to reschedule and honor existing tickets. I already spent the money, it's gone, the decision has been made. I don't want to mess with the ticket buying process for shows that i am not 100% confident in them happening. It will be harder for me to commit new dollars than it would be for me to rollover already spent dollars. Not buying tickets for anything new (for any band) until things are rolling again and we aren't looking at a half-ass production, just for the sake of having events.

Right its almost like we are in the middle of a highly politicized rollout that is leading to a huge swath of the country refusing said vaccination.

Your faith in humanity is refreshing, but its incredibly misplaced Tim.

Right. But announcing a lineup now makes it seem like they are doubling down on the hope that it can actually happen. It’ll all depend on how much of a thing this next wave and these variants are.

Keep in mind I’d happily go to a sold out show right now. 1,000 people, 10,000, 100,000... I’m vaccinated, I’d have zero issue going. I want a return to live music as much as anyone. I just have seen too many negative things happen in the past year to make me believe that we will be seeing large concerts/tours anytime soon.

Rumor from my local venue and someone i know, they are trying to work things out with no luck despite shows listed on the schedule. Expectation is June and July are gone for sure, holding hope for August and beyond but the light is dim. It is basically just waiting for the shows to announce how they will either reschedule or cancel. Big thing is ticket money and how they will handle that since many bands have had it since early 2020...

Everyone hopes it can happen, and the first step is to have a lineup and sell tickets to a 3 day, 100,000 ticket event. I don't see a lineup announcement as anything above hoping it happens, and at least secure some $$ for all the effort/costs going into planning it.

My brother and I got ours at the same time and place, and beginning the next morning I could barely lift my damn arm because it hurt so bad. That lasted about a day.

Can't wait for #2, sickness and all!

I realize we're having a feel good moment with the vaccine out, and for some of us, that other things have changed this year. But for an example of how this is not yet over, see north of the border. In Canada, The Province of Ontario is experiencing a spike, and is going into a 4 Week lockdown.

I am very glad that the # of those getting vaccinated here in CA appears to be high. I worry more about people traveling into the state or those leaving for a vacation and returning. I see the next 4-6 weeks as being critical. Given that America has very much plateaued at just below 1,000/deaths per day average, it would not surprise me if they start to reverse course and rise. Not anything like we've experienced before, thanks to the vaccines, but enough to roll back some of the restriction easing, and just as important, preventing us from moving forward.

Well put. This is exactly why I am not even a little optimistic about large concerts/tours in 2021. Too many things have to go perfectly right in order for that to happen. We are currently at the beginning of the next wave, or surge, or whatever the fuck you want to call it. I don't believe it will be as bad as the one we just had over the winter, but who the fuck knows I guess.

The shitshow isn't over yet, we are somewhere in the 3rd quarter I'd say.
