If you Manfred Mann's version over Bruce's then you have musical issues

Somebody mentioned Eddie Vedder a few posts up. He did some truly fantastic covers on his solo tour last year. With the exception of the big names he covered (Springsteen, The Beatles, a few others), I've never heard of most of the artists he covered. I do know that the main single from Into The Wild, which was called Hard Sun is a cover of a song by a band called Indio, which I actually managed to track down a torrent of awhile ago. Eddie's cover isn't all that different, save for his vocal, which buries the original.

You're not. I had no idea what Bruce was saying when I heard the original. And its a bit bland.

I do love Bruce, but only the stuff from Born to Run through Nebraska or so.

    ^ Yea. Mislabled shit.

That Gin and Juice cover was done by The Gourds if I'm not mistaken.

I know Phish is silly enough to do such a cover but if you listen to it it doesn't sound anything like them.

This is supposed to be the covers that are BETTER than the original right?
Not just a people that happen to do covers of famous songs thread. Cuz I would say about 75% of the ones posted in this thread so far fall into the latter.

    Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons

My God is the original awful. It's not that the Goldfinger version is even good, it's that the original is such an abortion it kills ears.

The German one? I can't say I like it but I'm always happier to hear the original. Of course, that might only be because then I get to tell everyone around me that the descriptor "red" was only added in the english version because they needed another syllable.

Don't get me wrong, I love that cover and Pearl Jam definitely does the original justice, but it's really not even close to being better than The Who's original version.
