Subtitles on English language content. I know there are tons of people who just can't watch without subtitles (not talking about deaf/hard of hearing people) but they're so distracting to me. I can't stop myself from reading ahead and then I have to wait for the dialog to catch up to what I already know they're gonna say. It's so annoying.

That's been killing me lately watching Community while I go to sleep. Sometimes I'll have a white noise machine or air filter on so I'll put the subtitles on and they are just paraphrasing what's been said. So frustrating and unfortunate for people who really need them.

I used to work for a company that transcribed all kinds of videos for subtitles, often including Netflix shows. So I get a little extra irritated knowing that someone somewhere is just slacking ass.

The most egregious ones I saw a while back involved interviews with non English speakers. So a German woman is speaking her fluent German, they have a voiceover translating in english, and the subtitles don't match the voiceover. No telling how much is lost in all of that.

When the subs don't match the dubs in a non English language, I get it. I don't like it, but I get it. There were two different companies translating the dialogue.

But when you take stuff like Harry Potter dubbed in Spanish... woof. When Dudley says "Daddy's gone mad, hasn't he", the Spanish dub says "I have no idea what's going on". That's just... wrong

I'm definitely over this Texas summer. Had a semi-final match scheduled today for 10:15. Got to the courts and it wasn't too hot, slight breeze, just a little humid. We warmed up and right as the match was about to start, it started pouring. 90 minute rain delay, so we got started back up at 12:00, when it was 20 degrees hotter and 10x as humid. Currently cramping in the hotel room waiting for a fantastically overpriced pizza to be delivered by GrubHub.

Man, this week was so bad. Stuck at the hall all week, it was absolutely brutal except for Thursday. I can't recall a summer this bad. Maybe because I'm older its harder to take but the heat has just beat the ever living piss out of me.

The clerk at my local gas station. I usually go in on Sunday mornings to get a 5 hour energy. This dude is always way too chipper and tries to be over the top funny. He said something jokey this morning and I responded "sorry, it's way too early for that". He said " it must be way too early for me because I'm just being myself! " then proceeded to just tell bad dad joke after bad dad joke during the transaction.

I'm almost at the point where I wanna go elsewhere out of the way. But I feel bad because the dude is just trying to bring some lighthearted friendliness and humor into everyone's day, but man is it hard to deal with on 4 hours sleep.
