Just watched a bunch of the Hollywood Bowl videos. They were all great but damn did Billies stand out. For me that's the song that's been missing the fiddle the most. And bonus, she didn't miss any parts because she was busy vaping.

Over the last two years they've sounded better than any point previously in that same amount of time IMO so I'd imagine having a world class musician along with it is a nice touch as well

It would be great to have a woman full band member in DMB. Especially if she can more than hold her own with the other world class members this band has.

Getting that surprise both nights in person would have been a real treat. It definitely showcased that it's been missing. Just like pure relief when I saw the video of it. I think they've done a great job of not making us miss it, but it's just like covering up on the songs where Boyd was front and center. This just reiterated that some songs just need it!

Killed it on Ants, then I was blown away with Billies. I know there is def some thirst for ANY violin player at this point, but man that sounded great. I miss that sound and really hope something comes of this.

Was this the first time there was ever a violin guest with DMB who wasn't part of a string section? There was one who guested with Dave and Tim, and a few that played with Dave when he was by himself for promo stuff like Cuba, but I dont think there has ever been a violin guest like this before.

Her appearance was well received by people in and around the band, as well as a lot of fans. I don't know how many times it'll happen, but I'd bet your house that she'll perform with DMB again. I think that the response to her performances will pave the way for more appearances in the future, either by her or by other similarly skilled musicians.

Someone mentioned to me that they thought the recent Hollywood Bowl shows were the best shows DMB has ever played in LA, and he's been to every single one of them. Agree or disagree, his opinion is one of great influence.

On a separate note, I wonder how BT feels? Optimistically i'll hope that somehow this can motivate him to get it back together.

To be absolutely shown up? I don't think that would motivate Boyd. He had to have had conversations about this topic with other band members and nothing ever came from them. Just spit-balling.

She's also done far more live playing and guest spots playing live than recording...100% comfortable on the stage.

At least one person dismissed because she was Brian Calhoun's (of Rockbridge Guitars) ex-husband as if that would have any bearing on her abilities...ridiculous.
Most people seemed to count her as a great choice - she was first mentioned in post 50:

Also she was Brian Calhoun's wife, she's now his ex-wife. She's never been his ex-husband at any time.

(I know what you meant, just being humorous)

It would be awesome if they brought her on the fall tour as kind of a try it out, let's see how it goes type of thing (similar to Rashawn in Fall 2005). It's a short tour and wouldn't require any long term commitment.

What my wife and I were hoping! Bought our Dayton tickets for November...first time going since 2018 so that would be a nice treat for our first concert back from a hiatus.

I would think the overwhelming positive response to those two performances has made its way back to DMB and management. Every single comment on every single post/video I've seen basically says the same thing. The entire band had a shit eating grin on their face both nights.

Management doesn't care. There have been overwhelming responses to YouTube and SXM streams and they still didn't change anything.

Also there is no upside to bringing Ann on tour given that MSG will sell out and Seattle is most likely close. Knowing this band and management is about their money is the biggest impediment to having her sit in legs of a tour or permanently.

Maybe we see her at the gorge or another west coast show next year. But what are people gunna do if she doesn't show up on tour not buy spac and deer creek tickets lol.

This is true. There has long been a tone-deaf, arrogant attitude from the management and/or band that indicates they believe the fans will lap up whatever they do. Maybe they are insulated from the comments of fans that don't get in line with that. But I know lots of folks, including myself, that used to do 10 or more shows a year and now don't go at all or maybe only to their local venue.

At this point it is what it is. They are in their 30 something year as a wildly successful band and probably don't have much initiative to change alot.

I think it was made pretty clear that Dave did not want another violin back after Boyd. He was trying to separate the band from that sound - so I believe it's highly unlikely offers went out to for a violin gig with the band in 2018 (despite some rumors that this was the case).

In 2018, there was a poster on here that insisted for months that the band would have a guest violinist during the tour at the Hollywood Bowl. It turned out to be a full/close to full orchestra (Anne was part of that orchestra), but my recollection is she did not end up soloing like she did on Ants last night back in 2018. Would love for her to join but seems like a dream:

Obviously an insanely talented violinist, but I have to say: while the Yanni clip showcases her talents, that performance is near identical to the version from '95's Live at the Acropolis--as in, it's not a great example of improv potential (because she's not improvising).
