Review from someone who heard the new album

Rodrigo Simas, the man behind DMBrasil, the Brazilian DMB community, had the chance to hear the new album (again, on Lillywhite's car) and posted a review on dmbrasil.net. Check out the Google Translate version of it, there's a lot of good insights on the album:

interesting. the translated text is odd, probably cause of Google Translation. but it seems like it will be a heavy sounding album (??), the least pop from the band? that's what i understood from it. that can be a good thing if heavy means DT quality or a bad thing if heavy means Time Bomb quality...guess we will have to wait a see.
one thing is certain though: quality of production will be top-notch.
just the fact that apparently the whole band shines, including more Boyd, makes me hopeful.

I haven't been reading any reviews because I think its basically impossible to write an honest review yet... I mean you were sitting in a car next to Steve Lillywhite being the first fans of the new album...I'l just judge with my own ears when it comes out

Why? If it's because he's describing the album as a change of direction but honoring their roots, I think that's very encouraging. I'm not sure how long you've been a fan, but BTCS was a huge change of direction for the band compared to UTTAD and Crash, yet it stayed true to their roots. BTCS was a much more mature sound for the band.

    This.

It's funny how people are trying to compare the new stuff to the Big 3, when the Big 3 were all different sounding albums...each one with it's own style. How do you compare a few songs to a group of 3 albums that all had their own distinct sound? You don't and can't. This album is going to be sweet! No pun intended!!!

Great review. I think its wise of him to say that 'anyone expecting another Crash, UTTAD, or a continuation of BTCS will be sorely disappointed." Unfortunately, for some members of the fanbase, this is what they're going to expect. I'm content with it being something completely new and innovative while trying to hold on to the core elements that made those albums great, which is what I think will be the case. Nonetheless, the wait for this album is going to be a LOOOOONG one for me.

It's impossible to really make really good judgements on songs you heard one time and in exciting circumstances. Just look at some of the Ants reviews of BW songs and SU songs before release. But I like that in this article the writer made it a point to not overhype things and try and give as good of an objective breakdown as he could. I for one am very excited. I think this album has the potential to be right up my alley. And always remember, often times the best music takes a few times through to truly click. The more dense soemthing is, the longer it takes to digest. Initial reactions on this or any record are not really something I worry about too much, unless they are flat out bad.

i really hope i am able to get a hold of the album when it is released and be truly listening for the first time--besides mercy, gaucho, and sweet. i don't want to make that same mistake like i did with big whisky and be listening to every little fuckin snippet making new judgments each day. that kind of ruined things for me.

Nothing too surprising here, sound like we're in for a decent album that will continue to split the fan base. I am hopeful that the new sound will be a step in a good direction as compared with the other times we've heard "new sound" coming from the band. Progressive rock is a cool direction and could work well with the bands current sound. Gaucho is our best look into that sound right now and it works well.

That was an interesting review. Most of the other reviews posted on here from people who have heard the record basically could be summed up by saying: The record is good and the last song sounds like pink floyd." It was cool to read something that gave a little bit more of a objective and detailed opinion.

There is no way this album will sound like BW for all of you BW haters out there since Lillywhite never even listened to BW prior to making this album. What would the odds be he produces an album that sounds just like that without being influenced by it. Slim to none. BW is a good album but this album will be great.

Thank God I am seeing the band at Blossom on Sunday because I need a dmb fix after reading this review.

Considering BTCS was nothing like it's predecessors, and so far the semi-reviews we've heard so far are pointing the new album is headed in the same direction. I'm definitely excited. It sounds like there's a quality reminiscent of the band back in the 90s but with a new sound. That's what I want from this band. Quality and new sounds. It's why I fell in the love with them.

    I WANT!
