The age point is that you can't necessarily expect the band to want to play songs they played into the ground for 10 years in the 90s in 2011, when they have a much bigger catalogue. I know musicians who get sick of playing some of their songs they've probably played less than 25 times live, let alone hundreds over the course of years.

Well then why haven't they play Stand Up or Everyday songs for the last 10 years? And I mean nearly all of them, not just a few.

Everyday was the most played album in 2001, and second in 2002 because of Busted Stuff. SU was the most played album in 2005, 4th in 2006 and back in 1 in 2007. They did play those albums a ton in the couple years following the release, presumably because they liked them at the time. As to why they do or do not play certain songs, that's sort of the point of the argument. They, Dave really, just does or does not for any number of reasons and unfortunately it doesn't line up with what we want a lot of the time.

Look, my point isn't to defend his choices, it's just to point out that the concept of him being sick of songs after a decade plus should not be that hard to grasp. I hate it as much as you, trust me, I do, but years ago I just came to realization that the things we all thought should happen never really did and I just accepted that. Has made experiencing the shows a million times more fun not going into with a douchey attitude.

As I said before, the only reason we think of pre-Everyday shows as great is because there weren't any bad songs to begin with. The sets were just as similar though and they always have been, as seen in the DMBML complaining even from like 1994.

I hope so. Artists need to evolve, including DMB. Their sound is certainly different from the Big 3 days. Some folks will call it progress others will call it going backwards. Life happens and the band will change as time goes along.

The core of DMB music is solid, not just ok but very solid. I am always waiting in great anticipation to see what's next. Be grateful that they don't play the same 20 ****in songs all the time like some artists do to just collect a paycheck.

I just hope that the spirit of what they rediscovered while recording Big Whiskey will carry over to the next record and beyond. They have righted the ship and it is heading in the right direction. Steady As We Go... er um sorry for the Stand Up reference..

I'm not holding my breath. I bet we'll maybe see a few new, unfinished tunes, and that's being optimistic.

The fact that Dave said "i hope" as opposed to "we hope" leads me to believe it will be a solo effort.

didn't it say in the '08 tour press release that they would play new music from the forthcoming album on that tour, and it never happened on the entire tour?

Yes, it did say that! I'm not buying it until it happens, and I'm not to crazy about new music anyway until an album comes out.

Have you heard the tape or just going off the front page. I'm almost positive he said 'we' not to mention Dave is usually not so egocentric as to disclude the band, especially when they are all on stage.

Not calling you out or anything, I just kind of remember hearing 'we' not I but I could be wrong.

that makes it sound like they're going to road test songs, "auditioning" them in front of the crowd to see if they are approved of or if they fall flat. i would be really surprised if they bring out an album before next summer.

I am optimistic that a new album will be good. Also hope that they keep breaking out new cover songs...even some that they may only play once or twice.

never thought I would hear them cover Zeppelin, Aerosmith or Blue Oyster Cult...awesomeness.

I think they could put out a couple good albums. New material, covers album, and live songs they haven't released yet.

This. The band has proven to me anyways, that they lack that old-time focus/drive when it comes time to sit down for studio work.

To me,yes. Look at new road songs ...

Pre BW before album....Spaceman,Why I Am and Funny.
Pre BS/LWS...Raven,Bartender,Grey St,Grace...

Thats the old focus. Shit,even pre SU you have Hello Again,Crazy Easy,Joy Ride...compared to newer live songs that are all fuckin jibberish(Cornbread,Blackjack)

they still played stand up pretty heavily through 07, their third tour with it released, just like this year with big whiskey, lets say nothing comes out before next summer tour, maybe B/W will start to even out, and get less play just like S/U did in 08

I am hoping this is a new DMB album, and I think one of the major things to focus on, for the band, is to get Boyd back into the mix. Although I love Big Whiskey, I think Boyd is such a major part of the sound of DMB, and was missing on alot of the album. And I am not talking string arrangements, I want Boyd rocking out, as only Boyd can rock out on the violin.
