Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need their own thread

I would not be opposed to a solid 2012 release. Especially the Boston show that was mentioned recently, as I was there :-) I'm all for the "underrated" these days, and would argue that 2012 is a somewhat underrated year. There were some really good shows and solid set lists. The biggest problem with 2012, in my opinion, was that was the year it became blatantly obvious that something was up with Boyd. In 2010 I noticed he wasn't playing all the same parts he used to on some of the songs that made a come back that year. In 2011 I noticed it a bit more when listening to Kill the King from Atlantic City, and Captain from Chicago. But 2012 was when it became very noticeable he was being muted. It's about then when I stopped collecting shows more intently. That said, he is very audible on the tapes from Mansfield 2012, and the Burgettstown shows. Both of which had stellar two night runs. If you like 2012, those are some shows you should check out.

Cool, I'll check those out. I totally agree with this point. One of the biggest things I noticed from some of these shows is how Boyd just kind of drifted into the scenery and wasn't as prominently featured as he used to be. Every once in a while he'd have some stand out moments, but overall he wasn't as present in the vibe of the shows as he once was.

The recordings from Rockinman are absolutely incredible. They're the next best thing to soundboards. The bass/drums really set them apart. They're snappy/punchy & full, but not boomy. I'm definitely making artwork for these. They're going on the shelf alongside the LT's & discography. Thanks

Thanks to everybody that tapes the shows-

I'm so glad this forum can talk shit about DMB and you won't be flamed do hell and back.

There's so many stans on all the band subs on Reddit that can't take the slightest negative comment about their favorite group. I made a joke about Freddie Mercury's hairy chest in the Queen sub and got downvoted to oblivion about it. Stan culture needs to be cancelled.

Yes- it cracks me up that they took that Eminem song and think that it's a good thing to call themselves "Stans" WTF? That's not a song to aspire to, lol

I hear you. It's so shockingly rare to find an online community that is negative about the thing it's about.

He’s mixing in more rarities, that definitely helps. At a 2017 show, I saw Spoon, BOWA, Recently, Bartender, Two Step, and IBYU. You don’t get all those songs together full band these days.

The best version of Do You Remember (including studio) is the Dave solo one from Mexico N1 2018, and it’s not close.

I had a very vivid dream last night that Boyd played LIOG with the band and played an incredible solo, putting his heart into it Etc. Afterwards, Dave and Boyd hugged. It was awesome. Thought it was a revival situation but then I woke up.

Yeah he's definitely more comfortable with taking chances with D&T. I get it, it's easier. Also he's not having to scream and strain his voice as much I feel like he sounds better vocally in these shows. Of course another obvious plus is I don't have to sit through a 15 min jimi thing at D&T shows. Lol

Had a pretty shitty day, my wife got some bad news from the doctor so I left work early came home and got very drunk, which isn’t a normal response in my life. I turned on DMB live album and it felt good. Kinda made a shitty day less shitty.

The. Worst. I put it below Be Yourself. At least Be Yourself has some interesting music and a funky sax solo. It's so bad that I was convinced at some point he would say it was a song his kids helped him write. The lyrics are absolutely painful to listen to. When he hits that line, "let the children plaaaaaaaaay the game"...I can't help but laugh at how bad it is. It might not be so bad if he convinced me otherwise, but even he seems unsure when they play it. He keeps forcing it down our throats at shows, but his delivery comes off as even he knows it blows.

I can't think of a worst song than Come Tomorrow. Hunger for the Great Light is by far the worst studio track in the band's history, but the song is at least redeemable in a live setting. Maybe Angel? I just scanned through their song catalog on the almanac and nothing jumps out at me.
